Fuel gauge on new backdraft
Having some issues on my new backdraft iconic 427. The fuel gauge does not consistently show the correct fuel. Sometimes it shows no fuel, couple of minutes later half a tank. It does not seem like it is just the swoosh of fuel, its pretty consistent with showing a quarter or half a tank as I drive. When I refuel, it shows empty until I drive about five minutes. Then it never shows full. It will show almost full then drop down to half full after 20 or so miles. Its definitely not showing what is actually in there consistently. Its an autometer (spelling ?) gauge. My mechanic told me I need to take the fuel tank out to replace the sensor. Any others experience this? Thoughts?

Yes, last year when I drove it alot it didnt do it as much but this year it sits alot more and when I go out in it sometimes it takes 10/15 minutes to register but once it does the needle usually stays around the right amount but will move around on rough roads and under hard acceleration. I never let it get below a quarter tank, once it goes below half I head to the gas station with my wife. Its a pain getting out to pump gas so I let her do it. She doesnt care because she loves it when we go out in that car. The gas gauge not registering can be stressful so really pay attention and remember how much gas is in it during and in between rides.

No need to take out the tank. Under the carpet in the boot/trunk is an easy-access panel.

I have the same issue with my Backdraft cobra. My fuel gauge always shows full. I called Backdraft and they sent me Fuel gauge and sensor. I live in Los Angeles area. Any mechanic you would recommend that has worked on these cars?
