427 Cobra rear suspension Spicer axles

Can anyone tell me if the Spicer axle shaft u-joints need to be "clocked"

In other words the splined shaft u-joint at the diff would have the u-joint saddles at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions and the slip yoke u-joint at the upright would have the u-joint saddles at the 3 0'clock and 9 o'clock positions.

Or do they get lined up in phase?

Thanks for the help.

Cheers
Greg

I would call a drive line shop or better yet call Spicer directly, and yes I hate these kind of answers too,but I would hate to give you the wrong info.

The U joints should always be in line with each other think of them as two crosses one on top of the other and it should look like one cross and if you can figure out what I just said you’re welcome

This is a nice little video, that's been around a number of years, that demonstrates, with both sight and sound, the aspect of phasing.

And don't forget to have your zerk fitting in compression on the u-joints on the drive shaft. Of course, if you have a Jag rear with inboard brakes then those u-joints on the half shafts will always be in compression or tension depending on whether you're braking or accelerating, so it doesn't really matter. That's a bar room bet that you'll win more often than not.
