SPO1377: Kit or Factory Build?

Came across what's advertised as a Superformance MKIII for sale with frame SPO1377. Tag lists Superformance International Inc, Newport News, Virginia. I believe it's from around 2002, but getting some conflicting info on whether it's actually factory built by Superformance (as they are today) or whether this was a frame and body that were purchased and assembled by a home builder (more like a Factory Five). I wasn't aware SPF ever sold anything other than a rolling chasis so any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

SP01377 was a factory-built, turn-key minus car like all the other Superformance Cobras. SPFs are not sold as unassembled kits. The most an owner can do is the drivetrain installation and little finishing touches.

Superformance USA was headquartered in Newport News VA for a while, so there's nothing odd about that.

Are you 100% sure about that?

Yup. There have been a VERY few semi-assembled Superformance cars to allow conformance with some jurisdictions regulations but that was/is a factory assembled rolling chassis.

And you know this because???

(1) you have access to Superoformance build info and their records show it was a factory built car

(2) You are certain becasue there were so few exceptions that it must be a factory built car?

OP, have you contacted Superformance directly???

I believe MkIV is an authorized Superformance dealer.

The Cobra replica world was very different 15-20 years ago, I would be very surprised if SPF didn’t start out as a kit back in the day. Even the Backdraft I had came with an assembly manual.

SPF Cobra's were not started out as a kit.

No, no kits. Some"decontented"chassis' but no "kits"

Do you have a dog in this fight? Don't understand why you want his to be a "kit"?

No dog in this fight believe me, if the OP likes the car he should buy it, they’re all replicas. It really doesn’t matter.

Superformance comes form south Africa. A complete roller with out engine and drive train. Paint, fit and finish are second to none.
