Are Holman-Moody cobras rare ?

Where there many of these built? Are they in the same family of the Superformance ?

Holman and Moody was a major Ford NASCAR racing team nothing like SPF, a replica builder from SA. HM built GT40s back in the day for the Le Mans effort. I wasn’t aware that they ever did a Cobra. But if HM did build a Cobra I’m sure it would be very well done.

To my knowledge they never “built” a Cobra, but did race-prep at least one, CSX2009, which ran at Nassau and Sebring. They were involved in the GT40 program for a while and in the 90s did a run of MkII replica/continuation/tribute cars (pick your favorite descriptor).

Some Cobras of the period had HM tags on them like the one in the attached pic. These tags generally represented HM installed parts or engines rather than an HM built car.

Gotta love them brokers.
Misrepresent much?
Tries to make it sound like a numbers matching car, lol.

Its been a while since I have commented on the forum, but just had to reply. Greg, that tag has been reproduced and is readily available for years. I have seen them in the sixties and early seventies mainly on marine engines alerting the customer to the custom HM marine camshaft installed in their engine. The cam tag in the photo is unstamped, just as you purchase them from ebay. There is in addition an engine ID tag which was push rivetted usually to the intake indicating the serial number of the engine, usually carb type, compression, and suggested valve lash Not reproduced. Probably somewhere on the internet is a photo of the tag on my Cobra. My motor was purchased through Gerd Wunderlich, HMparts guy, from Freddie McCall (sp) HM crewchief of their GT40 program. Jeff, how many cam ID tags would you like me to send you? Good evening, Bob

The red Cobra in that link is a Contemporary Classic replica, serial no. CCX3-3830.

In the ad description the seller calls the engine a Holman Moody 427, and in the ad details describes it as a Roush 427. Must be a hybrid.
