Bolt-on Steering quick release hub
I came across this low profile bolt on hub adapter. Fits Sparco, Momo, OMP, NRG steering wheel 6 bolt pattern.

Note that the original Cobra and repro steering wheels have asymmetric patterns, unlike those quick-release hubs.

Thank you for pointing that out. That is a strange bolt pattern.
https://www.moto-lita.co.uk/bosses/cobra-barrel-boss-1/ It sorta reminds me of factory stringers and ribs that need replaced due to impact damage or corrosion and the new stringer or rib usually comes with pilot holes. If it does they seldom line up and you have to fabricate the part by hand. Thanks to Random Randy's "drill where I feel like it" technique. Luckily I have a BDR. |
I suspect that the asymmetric pattern is there to insure the proper alignment of the joints and splines below.

I totally agree. Making it "Paul Proof" is a term I often use to describe things to customers.

I don't know how the original hubs worked, but the ERA hub has pins aligned so that when the steering wheel is returned to center, it automatically cancels the turn signals.

I have to say that the quick release hub that Bob P. whipped up for ERAs is one of the best little add-ons I have on the car. It makes working under the dash, on the driver's side at least, ten times easier than when the steering wheel is there. It's virtually invisible and adds no additional distances to anything. That was a last minute add on my build (#829) and was worth it.
