Lone Star One
 
What ever happened to the Lone Star one prototype, I have never even seen a reference to it anywhere? This is not Lone Star cobra replicas but the 1968 Shelby Cobra replacement in 1968 from Shelby.

I just looked under Shelby Lone Star Cobra and Mike Schoen an owner since 1975 has a very nice video on it. I haven't seen this car, since I saw it on a used car lot on Hollywood Blvd in LA in Aug of 1969, where they wanted $10,000, which was more than 2 new Corvettes. A really nice car is they 68 Type Ford P68 F3L both the Lone Star and the P68 had the same designer.

I’ve been to a fair number of Shelby-related gatherings at Monterey, etc. and have yet to see the Lone Star, which is a shame. The P68 a/k/a F3L is IMHO one of the prettiest race cars ever designed. The Lone Star is also pretty although (again IMHO) Len Bailey placed the headlights a little too high in the fenders. If they were lower I think the car would be a stunner.

Mike Shoen brought it out to the LA SAAC Tony Souza car show last year, held at the Shelby facility in Gardena CA.

It’s nice to see that it looks well-maintained, although that’s unsurprising given Shoen’s ownership. You can definitely see the familial connection to the F3L.

I wonder how many people assume it’s Chevy-powered these days upon seeing the license plate.

My thoughts too Bob, About the Lic. plate & getting old ;). I have to say this rivals the , XKE, GTO (Ferrari), 246 Dino, in Design & Style Only this ones better cause its got a Good Ol'American Ford V-8 mid-ship :) But I maybe a little Bias. Cheers TommyRot.

I knew the F3L / P68 as the Ford Group 6 as a boy, mainly because I had a moss-green Matchbox model. It's a shame it never received due funding and development, as I think its one of the most beautiful cars of the era.

I wholeheartedly agree. It doesn’t have the brutality of some designs but it’s such a gorgeous, flowing design, in the same way the Daytona Coupes are. I miss the days when cars were styled by the eye of designer and not the dictates of the wind tunnel.
