Is somebody trying to hack my account?

I have been getting this email related to my account for the past week or two. I can't figure if somebody is trying to hack the account or if there is an issue with the site. When I go to log in, many times I get the locked for 15 minute message for like 2-3 hours.

Dear joyridin',

Someone has tried to log into your account on Club Cobra with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 185.93.229.3

Anybody else having this issue?

A search of that IP address: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/185.93.229.3

Looks sketchy.

Ive been getting the same messages every day. Takes me sometimes hours to log in because the first time I try to get in it tells me my account is locked for 15 minutes.

This website gets harder and harder to use. It seems to work well for a week or so and then goes right back to being in the trash can.

I believe that the IP address 185.93.229.3 address of cloudproxy14003.sucuri.net is safe. If I recall correctly occasionally when the site is down it indicates that there is a "securi.net" site involved. I believe that when the site was moved some time ago it was moved behind a securi.net proxy server. The 185... IP address is quite likely the only IP address this site sees.

I've been getting that randomly every few months for the last few years.
No real rhyme or reason / pattern to it as far as I can tell.

I've been here less than a year and haven't seen that before. I log in using Chrome if that helps.

I use Chrome too, and have been having the same problems. Tried Firefox, but no difference.
Funny (?), was just thinking a few days ago that everything seems to be working smoothly again on CC, and then next login....got that same 15 minute message, and for the next more than 24 hours, couldn't login

I'm obviously on now though ;)

Cheers!
Glen

I don't receive that email but I do get the You have used your 5 log on attempts from time to time and some days I can't get on at all because of that. So I normally tell the site to remember me but from time to time and this morning I had to log on again. So I don't think it is any person trying to get into your account.

I stay logged in (there is a check box). It could be that cookies are a problem. Try deleting all cookies associated with this site (and its variants) and log in again.

Once you get the message saying you've exceeded the count have you tried logging in again (1) on the same computer using another browser and (2) from another computer with no history or (3) from a new "no tracking" session. Most often this will result in you using different systems on your same wifi, which gives the same IP address since the real IP address is the one of your router. To try a truly different computer turn off your phone's WIFI and use the phone data. That gives you the IP address of the cellular system and not your home supplier.

I just got back on after 3 days of "account locked after too many attempts".
Emailed Brent and got back on. The IP address that locked was out of Chicago area but had been hopped from elsewhere. 66.248.200.3
https://www.ip2location.com/free/traceroute Looking at previous issues over last few months its always been a hopped IP address that locked me out.
Dunno if it is a vindictive forum member or a Smart A$$ kid. Since all it takes to lock someone is their user name and a few failed attempts. I wish the actual account user name was different from our screen name as it would prevent this issue since it would be hidden.

It's easy to find a list of usernames: Of course, every post has a username on it. Then all active users are listed at the bottom of the main forum list page. It's simple to deny service: Simply use one of those usernames and try logging in until you get the lockout error...

I never knew any of this, but it is understandable now. Scary. Many Forum moderators need to look at this.

Disassociating them is not a feature of this antiquated version of the forum software...
