Identify This Cobra

3 Attachment(s)
Hi Gang

Need your counsel.

The Cobra in the attached pictures was built 2 years ago.

I do not believe it is a Factory Five or a SPF. There is not a name/vin plate.

Any distinguishing "tells" that would lead to the brand of replica?

Thanks

Jeff

Looks like a Backdraft. What suspension does it have?

strictlypersonl 06-11-2020 08:40 AM

Unless Backdraft's design has changed, the engine is too far forward. The front suspension doesn't look the same too.

The SS round expansion tank and upper rad pipe scream BDR, but I see an upper front wishbone peeking thru on the pass side eng compartment and BDR uses BMW front struts. If it is BDR, the vin should be stamped on the crossmember the exp tank is mounted to.
Also, I see the pass door latch is the original type British latch assy. BDR uses a crappy latch from something non-automotive.
Could be very early BDR before changes That may have been made to cheaper parts to lower price.
If not BDR, I'll say Shell Valley ? B&B.

Shell Valley is known to use the Backdraft Expansion Tanks. Wheel base and fender gaps look like the Cobra Tommy Lee drove to college on that reality show bomb and that was a SV.

What is the rear suspension?

I own a Shell Valley and there's 3 things that look identical to my car. First the hood hinges are exactly like the ones on my car, second the door latches are the same also and third the fat 2" roll bar most other kit use an 1 7/8". So I'd say thats probably a Shell Valley.

Soundkillr 06-11-2020 06:33 PM

I vote shell valley. My backdraft rollbar is thinner than that. I haven't seen a backdraft running a bar that thick.

FredG 06-11-2020 06:42 PM

Throttle linkage and steering column are not Backdraft. Column looks after market with the left side directional.

xb-60 06-11-2020 07:44 PM

The steep angle on the rollover bar support and also the trim/surrounds for the rollover bar and the support bar suggest Shell Valley too.

John248 06-11-2020 07:58 PM

The fiberglass inner fender panels, the squareness and position of the the upper passenger foot box, steering column mount, thicker (2 inch) roll are and lower front cross member all resemble my SV.

Hi all, I have an Antique and Collectible Autos Cobra replica and I believe this is one of theirs. The radiator is titled forward. They also use the same hood hinges and door latches. The roll bar is 1.75". Checkout my album if you like.

shell valley

powrby4d 09-24-2020 07:44 AM

Not the same as 2005 shell valley

Since a more recent build than mine it might be the redesigned shell valley after the merger with midstates.
My 2005 shell valley has the e-brake on top of the transmission tunnel and the hood support rod is mounted much further back and lower in the engine compartment.

If I were a betting man, and I am. Top of the list would be Shell Valley.

cycleguy55 09-24-2020 01:08 PM

To my eyes the rear fenders look like FFR Mk3.

All the tells are there, I concur with those who labeled in a Shell Valley.

I concur

Looks a lot like my Shell Valley.
