Behind the head roll bar mounted cushion.

I'd like to see as many examples of head cushions mounted on the roll bar hoop. I saw a few, don't remember how I got there. I want to see pictures, plans, details, comments, what worked what didn't? Why? I know they are not historically accurate but I can see where they are a reasonable addition or modification.

If you can sit in your Cobra's seat and easily touch your head to the roll bar then you need to pad it, IMO. Mine is padded with plain black roll bar padding from Summit. I've been doing that with my roll bars since I got my first roadster when I was 16 years old. Now, if you don't want to pad your roll bar, and just roll the dice that you don't have your head whack it real hard as a result of an otherwise minor accident, then that's your decision.

That's correct.

Any part that is a "head strike" area should be padded.

I saw one that was literally padded with the hot water pipe insulation...

Here are the Summit choices: https://www.summitracing.com/search/...ll-bar-padding and it seems that the real price changes are for SFI approved padding. I don't know... aside from looks, I kind of think padding is padding and if you're gonna be racing, you might consider a helmet.%/

what I remember seeing

What I'm talking about is I saw pictures of upholstered padded cushions that were attached across the front of the roll bar hoop behind the driver head. It was so long ago It's hard to remember all the details. Some looked like they belonged, purpose built, some didn't look quite right.

IMO, no amount of roll bar padding can compensate for lack of a head rest/restraint...

Cheers, and stay safe!

Here are some I made. First few years it never bothered me not having them but getting older I guess and less risky. If you are interested guy that designed them has detailed posts on how to build them on the Factory Five forums. Search posts by Blown 5.0.

Thanks. I designed and built it. Leather work done at local shop. Backside photo for mount.

Interesting construction inside the yellow circle. What were you attempting to do?

I bought a pair of full coverage pads with velcro mounting, from a Factory Five member, but he is no longer making them.

That’s a center brake light. Flashes 3 times when brake is first depressed. Quite a bright light in person.
I don’t like making any irreversible modifications to the car and try to keep it as original /period looking as possible even though it is a replica.

I'm running one from acton

Not cheap, but great quality, and a nice headrest while driving.
