Paint pen

1 Attachment(s)
I need a paint touch-up pen or small can/bottle of paint to match my 2004 build BDR titanium silver Cobra. Called Backdraft and sent them the VIN as directed by the rep who said he would get right back to me with the paint code(s). Local paint shops will match it but in too large a quantity. Any input would be appreciated.

You will probably need to buy a quart from a paint shop. If they are refusing to mix a quart then I would try some other shops. Might even find one that will do a pint but might be a stretch.

Ron, I'm pretty sure your paint is the same color as Sledge's BDR. See post #16 in this thread.

I have purchased and used the Titanium silver from automotive touch up and it is close but not a perfect match. It is near impossible to get a perfect match with a brush or any other application method. The metallic in the paint will never lay down the same as a spray application and that is why the after market paints are “close but no cigar“

Lou:

Did you use it on a Backdraft, or on your Superformance? Just curious. For small areas it works great on my BDR.

I used it on my SPF and it either came out too light or too dark. On smaller areas it is ok but on larger areas not so good

Call or email Reg at BD and ask for the paint code for your car, stripes and main color. Then look up a company that has touch up paint and find your code. I did that and it matched perfectly. It was recommended that I use a tooth to apply the paint to scratches, it worked great, no over lap.

How did you get the paint off of your tooth

Yes, that is the trouble you have with metallic paint.

I have only had one car with metallic paint, and I have much better success touching up normal straight colors.

To the OP, your cobra is one of the most beautiful I have seen.

NAPA will do custom spray cans if you can give them the code or mix #'s. You can make a pinhole mask to touch up chips and such. This may give you a better chance of matching the metallic lay. Otherwise metallic touch ups will tend to be dark spots when applied by touch method

Ront49 ... I have used Dr.Colorchip: https://drcolorchip.com/
Watch the videos...

For my SPF Titanium color (PPG 210600) they made exactly a 1/2oz (or you can order 1oz) bottle. I have 5 sports cars and have used it on all my cars for stone chips/scratches. I buy a full kit and then different paint colors (1/2oz bottles) for each car. It's easy to use and if you are not happy with the application you just did, while it's still tacky you can wipe it off and reapply it.

It's really a very effective touch up method.
