Spf electrical issue:

Went to leave a friends place last night, no lights.

Switch checks out good,
Blinkers & brake lights work,
High beam flash works, no high beams solid
No running lights fore or aft,
No gauge lights

Will the headlight relay going out cause this?

Thanks

Didn't see fuses mentioned.

Ground in lh wheel well and under dash look good...

Kind of suspect relay; on the switch there is a red wire which shows system volts, ablue that should turn on headlights, and a grey/black that is for gauges and running lights? Shorting the hot to either of these does nothing...well actually writing this, if the relay was bad the gauges and running (marker and tails) should come on?

Sure seems like a ground...

Where does the lighting system ground?

Thanks

Do you have voltage at the switch and relay? They get their source voltage from separate fuses. if you don't have a DVM or test light to verify.....you're just guessing.

tortuga 10-24-2020 01:34 PM

Yes have a DVM

Have system volts to switch,
Testing the switch for continuity shows the int position connecting to power tab for the gauges and markers
And connecting to headlights in full position...
BUT
Shorting the power wire to either wire does nothing?

Will relay failing kill everything?

Just started working again...

Under there wiggling and testing and viola lights on, sure wish i knew what i did.

Yet another thing not to trust...

F me

Thanks for the help fellas

Under the dash? Check the connections on the light switch.

Whatever it was, it'll be back.

Usually with electrical devices or circuits they work or they dont unfortunately there is no warning. Some testing is in order, time consuming but necessary. Good luck
