Broke a half shaft backdraft

So only 2000 miles on a backdraft that I just bought. First day out I gave it a little �� gas and I snapped a half shaft. From what I understand, I have an e63 bmw rear set up. Best replacement out there for a 427-535hp car?

Call BDR, they should warranty something like that. Otherwise find a source for BMW racing parts.

What year / build # is your car? BDR switched to a beefier axle assy sometime during the RT3 builds. I thought it was during the switch to ventilated rear rotors but may be wrong.
Easy way to tell what you have. Remove the rear hub cap. Peek in and if you have a nut, its the early type. Bolt means newer type.
Early cars RT2 &3 used BMW E36 (325i) axles. Steer clear of the Car-done, Autozone, etc... I use GKN (oem maker for BMW)

Also I'd contact Jay at Welcome to VINTAGE Motorsports as they are in CT like you and are considered the best BDR (support) dealer.
Jay is also on this site quite a bit and goes by Cashburn.

Make sure you use lock tight when reassembling had mine come out . Check all the threads on the flanges and the bolts are you could be doing this repair twice. I would install new bolts on the flanges but that is just me.

You could get it from Iconic. But then you'd be replacing it with the exact part that broke. I'd only do that if I couldn't find anything else.

I would call a couple of companies that specialize in this sort of thing, and see if you can get some upgraded axles. I use axles from The Drive Shaft Shop on my race car, and in my FFR. Haven't broken one yet.

I would guess - but don't know - that the BDR axle shafts are shorter than stock BMW E36 parts. I wouldn't expect to be able to simply bolt in the stock parts. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that DSS is familiar with this, and has the info to make what you need.

+1 on what Bob said. DSS has a wide range of capabilities in the rear axle department and their axles are first class. They can be purchased for power levels up to and well beyond the 1000 HP level.

Give them a look see and I am sure you will not be disappointed..

common in trucks with tandem axles and similar stuff------you have one wheel thats spinning, there's no load actually on the rive parts to the opposite wheel-all of a sudden the spinning wheel gets tracksion and all the torque goes to other side---ends up twisting axles in two usually right at the end of the splines--------

So that is a problem in the sense that it breaks upon the other side getting traction, not an actual mechanical problem?

Still points to changing both half shafts I suppose.
