Ok there are different answers for different people. There are originals still being raced in vintage evens and a member here still runs one in autocross events very competitively.

I think Tony and I (for sure) would not drive an original on the streets if we owned it. Well I might take it on a backroad that was in good shape and little traffic. You have to operate them to keep oil flowing everywhere and fresh gasoline in it. But for certain, I would not let others drive it let alone rent it. Now if some movie was wanting to use it for say two months, I would want 50% the value of the car up front and them to insure it for the full value. I wouldn't trust them to insure it, so they would have to allow me to arrange the insurance and hand me the premium to pay it.

I'm not sure that 1 day or 90 days would matter to me that much. I want a handsome payment for allowing them to use it, and them to insure the full value if anything goes wrong.

For sure there are originals that still see the highway. I have a friend that owns an early CSX2000 that drives his every summer season. That said, if I owned an original, I'd probably drive it - since I also don't have a garage mahal to wrap it in - things like the annual Shelby party and a few other car shows when we were in Colorado. My short list for driving my Cobra and the Ford GT include only one person - my best friend who was also my mechanic and the only one trusted to work on them. And it wasn't because of the value, but because the number of people that understand what a short wheel base high HP high torque car and do to you before you know it's happened is very short list. Certainly the word "rental" would never be used in a sentence associated with any of my special cars. Heck, I doubt my every day daily driver insurance would cover "rental" to a third party.

If I had an original and a reputable movie company wanted it there would be heavy strings attached, including lots of insurance, me on the set and my ability to withdraw its use at any moment.

Of course, none of the participants in this discussion currently own an original, so if you asked someone who actually does you might get a different answer. For that, the SAAC people would be your best contacts.

There is a guy, Lyn Parks here in La Canada in So Cal who owns quite a few original 289 and 427's. He might be able to give you an estimate on what a rental cost to the movie industry might be to determine your cost.

The car had a spun bearing in 1969 but I'm going under the assumption that it was repaired. There is no record of that, however, but the car changed owners many times going through LA, Toledo, Niagara Falls, Jenkintown, PA, Feasterville, PA, Bozeman, MT, Livingston, MI, Blue Mounds, WI, Los Gatos, CA, Napa, CA and Menlo Park, CA. Highly doubtful the car would have changed hands so many times having serious engine issues. It was restored in 1989 and went on to win awards.

During the loss of use period, was the car titled by the party in question?

All in all it's pretty sorry story from the past owner (Not the org. owner, but the person that still has title to the Cobra) point of view.
