Exterior door handles?
I know this is going to be a sticky topic, but here goes.
I was watching a really bad old movie last night called, "Witchboard". One of the main characters was driving a Cobra, but it wasn't until near the middle of the movie that I noticed that the Cobra had exterior door handles. These handles looked a lot like the exterior hood latches. So, I have a top on my Cobra, and also have fabbed a set of side windows for it. In the future I would like to add a heater, and install the side windows. However, without some type of exterior door handles its going to be a huge workaround to get the doors open. Electric door openers are also an option. I know I can't be the first/only person to give this a thought, but I did a search here last night on "exterior door handles", and got a zillion pages of non related stuff. Anyone have any ideas what would look decent, or better yet some photos, as I have yet to find any photos of exterior door handles on these cars. |

On original cars, you slide the window open on the side curtains, reach in and unlatch the door. Something needing to be secured can be locked on the glovebox or trunk. No need for exterior handles.

On my ERA with the top and side curtains I would do just as Larry describes above. The side curtains do not lock and you just slide them forward and reach in and unlatch the door.

Now that we ( owners of Cobras ,mostly replicas) are getting older we want to drive in iffy weather Back when a roadster was the norm. Now a removable soft top seems a better choice. Side curtain are another addition. With a soft top you can adjust for weather changes as you go. A hard top you have to leave the top on or plan on leaving it at a place that is secure and then plan on returning to where ever you removed it. Not real fluid or spontaneous. A soft top with bows and side curtain can be packed in the car when traveling. Getting the soft top and side curtains at original build--purchase now sound like a better plan. My side curtains from Everett Morrison are fabric over a Stainless Steel tube frame with zippered window. Still obvious you can not just leave a Cobra , even a replica along the road or even in a parking lot.

These examples really don't look that bad. But not as original and even easer to get into especially the not invited.

When parking the cobra anywhere, I kept valuables locked in the trunk and also had a battery cutoff switch in the trunk as well.
