alternator bracket
I have lost my gilmor style cogged belt twice. I am looking for a bracket that can hold a ford alternator and stop it from twisting allowing the belt to spit off. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. what are some of you using? motor is 427 ford stroker 600 hp.

First thank you spdbrake but I was just hoping for a bracket that would be more solid than I already have. I found some on ebay that look good but, I hate shopping ebay, never know what you are going to get. They are C shaped and clamp from both sides of the alternator. My motor can be very violent sometimes and will spit belts like a cowboy with a mouth full of chew.I have been working on this for awhile and was hoping to get more input from folks here on this site.

The most common cause of spitting belts is a slight misalignment of the pulley. I would start by checking that.
If it's happening under "violent" acceleration, I would guess that the torque is causing the pully (and alternator) to become misaligned. In that case, you need to support the alternator and bracket well. A good installation would include a bracket from the back of the alternator to the cylinder head or block. If all you have is a C-arm on a pivot, that's not going to work.
Look at a good bracket for an early 70's Mustang with a 351W.

Yes it is a torque problem not a alignment problem I have the turnbuckle type and it flexes to much allowing to belt to become misaligned causing it to come off. I have been working with this for a while surprised I have not heard more on this topic. Only the bottom hole bolts to the head The top gets connected to the water pump bracket via the turnbuckle. Too much flex. I am only running water pump and alternator.

Yes that is the one ,ordered it today I just have had bad luck before in the past with ebay I like summit or Jegs ,but could not find that style. I will let you know how it works may take a little while I am damaged again due to a atv mishap.

Ordered new alternator today, center line of bolt holes did not line up to the new bracket.
I was using a modified chevy alternator. Also have to relocate dip stick, new bracket hardware is in the way.Glad the weather sucks right now gives me more time to do it right.

That is what I got same type car just was not set up for this new style so now I get to play the make it fit and make it look good game.:3DSMILE: |

works like a charm!
I have been spitting belts every since I purchased the car. I installed the kit on ebay and all I can say is so far works like a charm. revved up the engine and no flex at all,belt stayed in perfect alignment . really happy. only down side was relocating the dipstick tube for the new mounting location.:)
