Not traditional or original BUIT..

I know they never came with USB ports but. Most phones are multi functional. The batteries seem to always need a charge. The phones being used by the passenger taking photos, answering questions, giving and getting directions , etc. And ultimately calling for HELP. They all use USB connections. Has any one tastefully or not added a USB connection to their replica?
Before the age of everyone having a cell phone and GPS , 1977. My car broke an axle on my way home from work. I had to leave the car on the on ramp of the highway to get to a phone. Imagine winter in Washington, dark, wet, and cold. Calling family who had never been where I was. I didn't have much money on me. so I bought a beer and nursed it while waiting so I wouldn't have to leave and go out in the weather.
The car was a 56 Bristle with no side windows or heater. It took hours before they could find me. It took hours until my rescue came. A cell phone then would have save bunches of time, they didn't have a cell phone either They had to go all the back to get updates from me.

All you need is +12v and a ground to connect a USB power source outlet. If you prefer it be out of sight, you can have it go to a corded outlet that is tucked out of sight until you need it. .... As I have seen technologies change more than a few times, I would be more tempted to install a standard round 12v accessory outlet on a cord as that technology seems to have a long life. Then I can plug any adapter I like into it.

I installed a round power port under the dash for my wife. And another in the trunk for me. On a 30A circuit, you can run just about anything with the right adapter.

I installed a dual port power outlet behind the instrument panel along the lower edge. It accepts any type of accessory adapter for smart phones or even a map light which I keep in the car just in case.

I have a round 12V outlet similar to a round cigarette lighter socket the dash. I received an email from STREET WORKS showing their mountable USB ports with covers. I thought and remembered when I was in need. Looking for a tasteful version. Something I haven't seen or thought of.
I was surprised this business was still plugging away. On my quest for the Quick release steering thing so many of the dealers are out of business. When would you have thought that Summit would be down to only four left?
