Los Angeles mechanic recommendations?
Hello all,
I just bought an SPF and need a trustworthy local mechanic. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic around the Van Nuys or North Hollywood area? Thank you! |

Great guy! He is very knowledgeable and also brings overall car care to the table. 760-213-3292 |
jsaig1,
To follow up your other post about engine options, what engine is in the SPF that you bought? and what are your initial observations? Congrats! |
@ 1965 CSX, thanks, I will call him.
@fastd, I bought this one and drove it home 2.5 hours today! https://www.cobracountry.com/cars-fo...spo0813-allen/ Car runs strong, idles well, I just want to have a professional mechanic run through it for safety. It wasn't driven much over the one owners 21 years of ownership. |
Thank you for the recommendation Jeff.
jsaig1, I would be happy to help if you need it. |
If you ever need a quick hand with something, I'm over in l.a., but work in north hollywood sometimes.
You should join the SCOF group to gain access to the tech library. Most of the things can be done yourself fairly easily. Good thing is, you shouldn't have much to deal with since the car has so few miles on it. When I bought my car, the previous owner used it as a tourer, so I had a lot of deferred maint and little leaks to deal with. He kept up with oil changes, that's about it -Dave |
@saki302
Thank you! Car seems solid, but I want the car gone over by someone who knows a lot more than me. Suspension, steering etc to ensure safety and address anything that needs care or replacement. There is a small transmission leak out of the top cover gasket I want to get fixed, I would not attempt that. Any recommendations for my needs? I did join SCOF and just got my welcome emails. |
1985CCX, where is John located?

jsaig1,
Mine had a trans leak from the rear output seal, and the front input shaft flange- I pulled it myself (with the help of a friend to lift!)- only cost about $30 to fix, and self labor :D I know V's performance is down in OC and builds these cars, I was planning to contact them about getting my car aligned after I solve my coolant leak fully (down to one leak from the upper water neck bolt- doing that now). I did my own RT suspension upgrades- last thing was the ball joints, hence the pending alignment. I went over my car myself- ended up rebuilding the whole rear suspension pretty much (installed zerks on the lower arms, new upper outer heim joints), and my car needed new CV boots when I got it, so I swapped all 4 (age cracking- one tore). I never want to do that again. Randall's advice is spot on- when he tells you to check a wear item, it's probably worn out! -Dave |
