Clutch linkage FE w/ toploader

Tried the old McCloud hydro T.O. brg as a last resort, as the mechanical set-up
was not good. The hydro unit started leaking almost imeadiately, so tranny is comming out for the third time in the last 6 mo's !
the problem with the mech set-up is the tranny has the big input shaft, so the nose piece tube that the t.o.b slides on is too big for most bearings. So Mcloed had provided an altered press plate with the fingers cut back to enlarge the hole to clear the tube..but the shorter arms increase the amount of force needed to operate the clutch. I need something better, and I know there are kits out there, but will they solve my problem ?
I 'm sure there are members who have had the same problem, and I'm hopeing
they will see this post, and reply.

I'll bet David Kee Toploaders can can point you in the right direction.

Use a clutch fork from a mechanical style release mechanism and then use an external slave cylinder. You want your clutch slave to have a bigger bore than your clutch master cylinder. If you use a 0.875" bore master cylinder then you should use a 1.00' or 1.06" bore slave cylinder. GM used both on their C-10 delivery vans and they are very low cost, readily available over the counter Dorman parts. Look to someone like Wilwood for the clutch master cylinder.

Here is a link to a bunch of slave cylinder pics => Slave Cylinder Pics Pick one you like and then build a bracket that bolts to the clutch can mounting bolts to secure it. Here are a few mounting bracket pics (mixed in with a bunch of slaves) to help visualize various alternatives that might work for you. Slave Cylinder Brackets

Here is a link to an Iconic slave kit for a Coyote / Modmotor.

Iconic Slave Kit

The Iconic kit will not work for an FE but it can give you some ideas. The FE style would mount to the bellhousing (can) flange and push the fork back towards the rear of the car. BTW that is a C-10 GM delivery van slave cylinder.

I used this slave cylinder with a willwood master cylinder and it works perfectly.

look on my build thread under CSX 6079 build and you can see photos of the clutch arm I got from David Kirkham. It works perfectly.

It seems that the big input shaft needs a "Long" style press plate. Every one of those I find are sold only with a disc & TOB, which I already have. Anyone know of a source that sells the PP separately ?

I don't know if this could be a solution for you, it worked for me.
