New CSX owner checking in / advice welcome
Hi Everyone,
Been here on this forum for quite some time gathering info and finally decided to take the plunge into cobra ownership. Now the proud owner of a 50th Anniversary 427. Haven't cracked the nut on the picture resizing but I have attached the imgur link if it works with the photos from delivery. Wanted to say hello and am all ears when it comes to the care and feeding of these cars. So far I have opted for the Avons, ceramic coating, and am currently in the process of registration here in CA. Congratulations! Safety first. If this is your first high performance car without things like antilock brakes or traction control, take it VERY easy at first. I strongly suggest you take a high performance driving course and always limit your "driving near the limits" to a race track. This may be the first car you've driven that can break the rear tires loose by smoothly pressing the throttle to the floor in third gear. ... Enjoy the experience and keep it safe for yourself, your family and others who share the road with you.

As others have said, just take it slow and get used to the car. There is no traction control or antilock brakes to help you along. The Avons are nice, but just be ready on rough roads/uneven pavement. The increased grip is great on smooth pavement, but can lead to the car darting when the tires get warm and the pavement is uneven. If you live in an area where you will be driving on roads that may have loose stones on them you may want to consider some chip guards, as sticky tires have a greater potential to throw stones on the car.

Go over the entire car with wrenches, top to bottom, front to back. These cars tend to shake loose fasteners. Then mark them with a paint pen if you're detail oriented (like me). Give each spinner a good whack with a 6lb lead hammer. Once you've installed a few you'll tell the difference with each swing when the knock becomes a thud (tight). Teach yourself how to safety wire the spinners. They won't actually hold the spinner on, but act as a tell-tale if one becomes loose. Don't skimp on the hammer...buy a good heavy one. If it was my car I'd pull the rims and make sure there is sufficient anti-seize on the pins and hub. These are fun cars to tinker on and drive...enjoy!

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the insight and experience this group has to help me out.
Mike, I bought the car from Denbeste about a year ago but finally took delivery. His guys gave it a once over as it had been sitting since 2015 up on his wall. It is a fiberglass 50th but the only one I know of built by Kirkham and it shows. Very thankful for the opportunity to have this car. I’m happy to see a new San Diego county Cobra owner. I joined the cult a year ago. My Csx6144 is still not registered. I believe the car is first in line if things open up for a CARB appointment. It’s crazy, all the other appointments went smoothly, dmv was happy to take my money, and I keep on getting temporary registrations hoping the new guys (Jeremiah and Ken) up in Sacramento will start to play by the laws that are in place. I’m looking forward to seeing you and your Cobra around the area.
