Fiberglass repair

I bought a some years ago a “classic roadster “ that was partially assembled. It shows some signs of butchered assembly. I am finishing the build and need to repair the area around the door locks. Attached is a pic of the area. I am good with metal body work and paint. Fiberglass is a bit new to me. Can someone sum up the process to rebuild the fractured area?

I can't describe it better than the many videos online. Essentially I grind away some of the original fiberglass so there is a tapered area around the holes for the new fiberglass to go. Lay in layers of fiberglass mat (with hairy looking random fibers) wetted with the appropriate resin. I build it up higher than the finished surface and completely cover the hole. When it has set, I cut the new hole and grind it down to the right height. When that is done I top it with gelcoat before painting (and gelcoat is a whole lesson in itself). ... Fiberglass repair is like hanging drywall. Yes, I can do it, but it's painful and cheaper, both in mind and body, to pay someone else to do it. It's a skill that you will cost you lots of time to master and tools to do, and you'll find you probably don't want to make a career out of it (especially on the no-straight-lines surfaces of a Cobra). Fiberglass is fiberglass. Find a boat shop.

PS. I've seen many true "kits" that were horrible examples of Cobras (and in fact, detracted from the hobby) because of their horrible fiberglass work. Some even had the joint tape showing through.

I’m thinking JB Weld is the way to go here or a nice thin aluminum plate. Could also be glued on.
