But hey - to each his own. I'm no better; this is what's tugging at my heartstrings right now. A brand-new manufactured, 296BHP Ford Escort Mk1 RS

Had one of those (Modified Escort 1300 GT) in my very early twenties - only 110HP. Hit the mountain head on driving to work one morning Went A over K once then rolled back down to land on roof facing the way I had come from. Roof V'd down to dashboard. Fortunately had full harness seat belts so no injuries for passenger and me (Thanks Britax).
Learnt a lot of lessons from that experience that have kept me safe behind the wheel. :D Aah the over confidence of youth!!!!!! Don't think you can handle anything fancy until you have safely and successfully tried it.

One of the cars I learned to drive in was my uncle's 1300 Escort. I loved that car but unfortunately he was a grumpy old judge and he used to drive to work in his robes and the stupid looking judge's wig on his head. For some reason I was getting a ride to school with him one morning and he drove so damn slowly that two of my friends on racing bicycles overtook us. Being a kid, that embarrassed the hell out of me and I asked him if he could speed up a bit because bicycles were passing us. He promptly stopped the car and told me to get out. On top of enduring jokes about being overtaken by bikes, I also got into trouble for being late.
I did have the pleasure of riding and racing later on in a Twin Cam Escort against Cortina GT's etc. and the MK1 holds a special place in my heart.
