Maine Vin Tag Location?

I’m in the process of purchasing a Maine registered ERA car. Can anyone tell me where Maine typically puts the vin tag on the vehicle? The car was first inspected in mid 2000.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Check with your state vehicle inspector. Call your local county vehicle license plate department for their contact information. It's the person or persons that inspect new builds or issues titles and registration on vehicles with no titles in your state.

Thank you for the suggestion.

When I moved to Maine, the state would not accept the VIN from my prior state and they sent a State Trooper to my house to install a new ME issued VIN tag. The Trooper asked me where I wanted it, so I had him put it on the footbox by the throttle linkage. It didn't seem like they were required to put it in any particular location, as long as it was easily visible, so it may be in an entirely different place on the car you are buying.

What ERA are you buying? Didn't know there was another one around.

Chaplin,
Thank you for responding. I appreciate the information on the vin tag location. Seems there isn’t a specific location for them. Car is no longer in Maine. Traced the ownership but didn’t check the specific town it started out. Older build 14-15 years ago.

I’ll post more information about the car when it arrives.

Thanks again

Sargie,
If you haven't done it already, contact ERA, they maintain records for all their cars. I've always found them to be very helpful, their customer service is outstanding. As an ERA owner they will provide you with an owner only link to their website that is full of manuals & technical information. I have one of their earlier 427 Cobras and it has held up to the test of time. Good luck with your new purchase and welcome to the madness!

ERA174,
Thank you for the suggestion. I’ve already spoken with Bob & Peter there (been working on this for a little while). They along with the owner provided me with all of the cars history. The ERA guys are the best I’ve ever worked with. Previously had Mk1 & Mk2 FFR roadsters along with a Gen 1 Daytona coupe. The FFR guys are also really good and their dedicated forums are a great support system for builders and owners alike. I enjoyed building/assembling but they always drove like a kit car / go cart. The driving experience on the ERA is so different from my earlier cars. Solid is the word that comes to mind. The ERA I’m getting has been in the original owner builders hands since day 1. As it happens I live in Central, CT about 15 minutes from ERA. I’m retiring in the spring and the car is a gift to myself I hope to enjoy in this next chapter of my life.
