foot sensitivity
 

A fact of life is that as you get older you loose sensitivity in your feet even if you don't have diabetes. So, I decided to get a pair of motor sports driving shoes to see if that would help. The first pair came in and they must have been for a woman's foot as they were the right size but so narrow I couldn't almost get into them. I wanted the thinnest sole I could get for max feel. I ordered a different brand and they had a pair of Alpinestars on a close out and they were perfect, tried to get a second pair but they were out in my size, didn't really care about color so blue came. These were the low cut shoes and they have brought back a ton of driving pleasure. Ordered the replacement shoe for the discontinued shoe, it is 98 percent the same as the one I really like, the difference is in the heal. The shoes, I like have a rounded heal and the second pair has a squared off heal. This is personal preference, but I like the rounded heal so it will be the grinder on the second pair.
if you try this be aware you may get some feed back from your friends, as I have at breakfast with my friends, like am I taking up to be a ballerina. The comfort is worth the ribbing and I wear them all the time now even when not driving. So, if ordering pay attention to what the heal looks like on the pair you are ordering.

I’ve always used Piloti driving shoes for racing. Another great alternative is a comfortable Speery topsider or equivalent.

My everyday driving shoe has been Pitoti's for years. For driving the Cobra, I have a couple pairs of (Well Worn) high-top Simpson racing shoes (From my Racing days ;)), exc. feel for the pedals, narrow width, and support of my ankles for Heel & Toe down shifting.

I tried some Shelby driving shoes one time and they felt like the bindings that they put on Chinese women must have felt. (I think the Shelby's were Pilotis) My regular sneakers worked fine. The only time I ever felt cramped for foot space was the Formula Ford. If you wear a Cobra, the Formula Ford was a corset.

I agree Tony, Cobras footbox's are HUGE compared to a FF. I'll give many points if you had heard of my FF? 1969 Forsgrini Mk.12 FF. My paint scheme was the same as Team Lotus Gold Leaf (Orange/red, white, and gold stripe), since my FF looked just like a Lotus type 51 FF. I tracked in TopSiders or similar for years. Worked well although the Superformance foot boxes weren't as small as the Factory Fives.
Planning on driving shoes this time around.

I have an old pair of leather shoes in the tennis style. My right leg was made 3/4" longer when my hip was replaced so I drive autocross in a lifted left shoe. I had to grind off the sides of the shoes to keep them from catching each other.

I'd race in Wrestling shoes if not for the lift.

I have driven in stocking feet a couple of times when I forgot my driving shoes. I taped cardboard to the ball of my foot....it worked all right.

I have also made custom alterations to my pedals (in the VSE Cobra) and in both my FF cars.
