problem with fan belt alignment
I have a 351 with a serpentine belt. It has worked fine for the last 10 years. Last month the belt overrode the crank pulley edge and started to shred. All pullies line up straight except my torsion pulley, looking down at it, it looks like it is out a little bit farther than the crank pulley. The problem is I have a billet bracket which everything is connected to and the torsion bracket sits in back of the billet bracket. Any ideas on why this happened and how to correct it.

From what you've described you have a CCW water pump with a tensioner, Billet brackets and the belt is walking off the crank pulley.
Would be great if you can post a pic or two. The are several configurations, and even more if you have power steering. But I'd check the tensioner 1st as it is grooved usually (see pics request) to see if there is any wobble/play in the bearing or mount arm. If it leans it will walk your belt right off. Also check all the attaching hardware for tightness. |
