My old alum flywheel is probably good but by time I change the steel friction plate, get it flat ground, get the clutch and flywheel balanced as an assy. It's cheaper to buy a match balanced clutch and flywheel kit. I'll post a shopping list once done.

How did you like the aluminum flywheel and what brand dual set up are you going with.

We see some beautiful and powerful engines on this forum but it after watching the David Vizard Performance YouTube channel it seems like we could get matching performance with better and more economically running engines for all sorts of reasons including poorly designed cams, badly matched and selected and ported heads and inlets etc etc.

One of my dreams would be to collaborate with David on an engine for my Cobra - alas it will never happen.

I love the 14lb flywheel currently installed. Revs quick, and decels quick. I have accidently taken off in 3rd a couple of times so torque does not seem affected.

I changed from my solid roller 3000-8000rpm to a hyd roller 1500-6500 and it a lot more torquey. No more low rpm trailer hitching.

Was going to go with a McLeod https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mcl-6913-07 but their stuff never comes balanced.

So then put a Ram https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ram-50-2259 in the cart. But after looking at pricing for the flywheel insert, grinding and match balancing I'm going with a Ram https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ram-75-2259

My 408W is internally balanced but Ram does sell external balanced kits as well.

Standard throwout bearing, and fork. Adjustable pivot ball. I have a Lakewood bellhousing and external hyd slave setup.

Mine came in via Charleston, SC on September 2nd. My dealer drove down and brought it back up to Maryland along with another car from their order, a beautiful "British racing green" MKIII roadster. They have another two cars down there that were being picked up later.

We have every other component in shop now; wheels and tires (don't get me started on the scarcity of performance tires...), a brand new TKX transmission, you name it. Just been waiting for Roush to get back to us with build date...

I’m doing another Wiring Diagram for the Grand Sport and working on a new project, some wheel-well vents near the headers.
Blas

My high school class just had it's 50 year reunion - it was anything but quiet. LOL

I think you may have meant Quartermaster. I had looked at their kits but all of their 2-3 disc except the Optimum SR are strapless floating plate typ = noisy and rattle.
The Optimum SR are not available in my config of 157tooth flywheel, Internally balanced, 26spline, and their price point is $3500-4300 puts them out of range compared the $1000 for the complete Ram kit

For my needs I'm just looking for the extra holding power of the 2 disc that still have room for a Fork and external slave, and the ease of operation in traffic.

My painter came to the shop 2 weeks ago to review my CRI for paint. He would like to start on it in October and work on it into winter. Timing works for me since winter in Wisconsin is coming sooner than I wouldlike.

Wife and I decided to take a driving vacation to the west coast to see friends and family up and down the coast. Made it to SoCal end of last week. We have been visiting her childhood friend in Long Beach. They had a large car show in Belmont shores (1/2" walk from her house). We attended yesterday They close the main street from 10-4. A lot of cars. A couple of Cobra replicas. But one of the more impressive cars was a 66 Mustang GT350 with the Paxton S/C.

Brian, my 50th is next year, if I have anything to do with it, it will not be QUIET. Missed my 40th, but made the 35th, bought my XKE coupe. (Voted coolest car @ the Reunion) We had a small class (Less than 100) but most were cars guys. Lots of Mustangs, Z-28 or 2, 440 Roadrunner, and of course me in a 62 Dodge Dart 6cyl, 3-speed, but had ET mags, and glass pack ;) This coming year, they will hear me before they see me :) I wonder how many will show-up in their COBRAS?? Not many is my bet. My high school girlfriend thought the Jag was pretty cool (I was married then, not now) wondering what she will think of the Cobra, she was still very pretty, 15years later, here's hoping :) But, but the best one was our 20th, Drove in my full-on 240z race car, open exhaust, race tires, gutted int. full rollcage. Unloaded it a couple blocks away, my Wife practiced getting out the car with a dress on (Didn't go well ;)) She was a Trooper, I'll give her that. Did a donut or two, and PARTIED like it was 1999, in 1993 :) Good time Kids.

We had nearly 400 in my graduating class. Percentage-wise, we had more teachers from 1972 show up then students. Bizarre.

I showed up for the school tour in the Cobra. Fashionably late, in fact - which unintentionally worked out quite well.

The assembled throng was in front of the school, waiting for the tour to start, when I rolled up alongside them, blipped the throttle and backed into a parking stall and climbed out. Got a few chins wagging over that entrance.

Our 50th is this weekend, we are celebrating 2 years later due to Covid. I was on the event planning committee. (I supplied music) We limited the attendees to 100 and barely got that.i realized that it’s the same weekend as the last Road America event... so I’ll be at the track!
Great to see some replies to this thread. Anyone with winter upgrades in the planning stage?

Working on my hi tech build. I built the 428 a couple weeks ago. Engine/trans driveline and loop installed. Brakes and Brake plumbing and suspension almost done. Oil cooler lines next and then I will put the body back on to make the aluminum pieces.

Malgyver 09-13-2022 02:27 AM

I started my build thread, over on the Hurricane site. I'll copy and paste it to the build forum here.
