It Happens

 Well I did it again. Went to a car show the event was held for a friend with severe park ins disease AS I was leaving I wanted to give my friend ,something to smile about so I let the horses out of the barn and did a nice big burnout! By the time I got home the oil line to the pressure sender had cracked and I lost about three quarts of oil. Also car would no longer go into 5th gear. So I removed the transmission from the car while doing this I noticed my drive line bolts were all loose not only that but I snapped off two bolts on my axle that hold the CV joint to the flange on the rear end. I guess I should thank God I did not hit anything. One good thing now when I go on a long drive I will Know everything will be tip top.:D

Woah there Hauss! That could've ended far worse than it did. Glad you and the car came out ok. Good thing with fixing the little things that go wrong on these cars is you get the chance to catch and tighten up all the other things that could go wrong in a big way before they do. I can remember checking around my drivetrain once to address an intermittent vibration and finding one of my driveshaft flange bolts missing and the others so loose I could've removed them all with my fingers.

Wait a minute, you did all that from just a simple burn out???

I have to ask, when is the last time you actually tech'd your car? I go through certain items before I take it out of the garage, tire pressure, oil levels, knock offs tight.......Generally go through the car once a month or once every other month, depending on my use, to make sure everything is buttoned up.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff?

Can't find a good wrench anymore?

I turned every bolt on and in my engine.

I once changed a throwout bearing in a '75 Trans-Am in a KMart parking lot in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She's still going.

Dykem "Cross-check" torque seal is your friend.
If paint seal is broken the bolt/nut has moved and lost torque.

Saved my bacon a few times after 30 years in the air.
Used extensively in aviation maintenance on critical components.

Helped catch trouble before it happened in the Cobra as well.

It's high temp and resistant to oil/fuel.

Yep, I use torque seal on stuff that's easy to see:

and safety wire the bolt heads for stuff that isn't. Like this:

I do check but the cv bolts on the axle are inside the cv joint so I am only able to view from the backside where the bolts stick out of the flange. As I was rotating the drive line I noticed unusual play in the axle. as far as the oil line I will replaces with black iron instead of brass. The transmission is a TKO 600 and I broke the 5th gear rail witch happens more often than you would think with big hp cars.
