Could use some electical help - instrument lights not working

My Contemporary has an unknown harness in it, with a generic push/pull light switch. The outside lights work just fine on the car, but the instrument lights are all dead. I'm a zero with electrical problems. Should I just replace the switch? What else should I look at? This is just another of the 10 or so hopefully minor new build sort out issues I have. Thanks.

The instrument lights typically share their power with the parking light circuit, sometimes using a rheostat in line (series connection). Bypass the rheostat if there is one. They are a known weak link. If not, find a break between the parking light circuit and the instrument lights.
