A “Streetcar” named Desire!
Went to Unique Homecoming to see my newly born 289 FIA in the neo-natal unit. Maurice and Alan are putting a few miles on it to be sure it’s fully sorted out before I pick it up! I tried not to cry when I saw it…being a tough guy and all.
I had them paint it, and though I had wanted to build my own, a bunch of things came up, and aware of my own mortality, and wanting to drive it, we decided, my time was better spent driving it after he finished it. Good call, as the fit and finish are immaculate. As others have said, you just can’t go wrong with a Unique. Pics don’t do it Justice! To say I’m thrilled is an understatement. Equally impressive as the car, was the welcome I got from the Unique family of enthusiasts….Even with the poor forecast weather (it ended up being glorious), still about 30 cars attended. I made a number of friends. I even got to spend time with PDub and his delightful sons, and got to tell Zach in person that I had been using photos of his silver street FIA (copied from here) as car porn during the wait. The Weavers officially put a branch for us on their family tree and treated us like long lost members of the tribe. A thread here was the reason I was able to find the forward shift kit for the TKX, so it’s in the “close to correct position” for the 289 body. Lots of people have reasons for buying the car they choose, but Paul gave me the best advise ever when he first told me to take the short drive to Gadsden from Memphis. Thank you! And a big Thank You to the Weavers at Unique, and Susan Parham and Lyle from Southern Automotive! I will pick it up in two weeks and I can hardly wait! Oh, and within five minutes of being in the car, this chick wanted a ride! http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/3312/Peeps.jpeg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/3312/Front.jpeg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...2/Cockpit.jpeg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Nice_rear.jpeg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/3312/Right.jpeg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/3312/Left.jpeg |

Your "Desire"
Beautiful FIA, Shep ;) It was worth the wait :). Hey, give me a call, I have news too. Any plans to be in the NW for a lay-over (Sea-Tac, Spokane) anytime soon?? Cheers Buddy, Tom.

Thanks Folks!
The amazing thing about owning the Cobra already is the social aspect! I just got a nice phone call with Congratulations from Tom. I’m going to have to bid some SEA layovers to enjoy some coffee with those guys. Come to think of it, I could become traveling messenger between our pockets of Cobra guys….. For example, I could have coffee with the Texas folks and bring “Greetings and Salutations from the Pacific Northwest”….then on to Ohio, and the like. :D Seriously thanks for the encouragement and the advice, I’ve spent hours reading and not commenting simply because I have little to add at this point other than my enthusiasm. Still waiting for that first drive….I’ll report back. I will say that there is a weird noise just before the fuel pump kicks on….almost like a whisper. We recorded it and I played it for Maurice. He said …”Oh,….. don’t worry about it…that’s normal”….when slowing it down and adjusting the volume, it sounds like it’s saying “Be careful, I can kill you!” |
L Jak,
Congatulations! That combination of Viking Blue on an FIA Cobra just works perfectly.... but then I am maybe a little biased. Enjoy many happy and safe driving miles :) Cheers! Glen |
LJ,
That is a beauty! It looks much like the car I described to Maurice when I was at the open house last year....as soon as I can get some work done on my house I am planning on ordering an FIA from Unique myself. I see you live in Collierville, I live in Somerville a few miles east of you. If you would not mind my coming by sometime to drool over your FIA, PM me. .chris . |
Awesome car!
It was great to meet you and your better half, at Homecoming, Shep! Your car is a beaut! Guys, his car looks even better in person!
Can't wait for you to get your first drive, my friend. Be safe and enjoy. I am already looking forward to next year's event! Here is a Unique Motorcars Homecoming 2023 thread I posted over on the other Cobra site... https://www.talkcobra.com/threads/unique-motorcars-homecoming-2023 as there a couple of pics of your car, Shep. |
Looks like I will be picking up car in a few days! Barely can contain my excitement!

That is a beautiful car and now you can start to really enjoy it. Just be careful until you get used to it.
