Cobra Country & BAT

Everyone. I'm going to sell my 2014 Backdraft. I put it up on the Facebook marketplace which is where I was lucky enough to find it 5 years ago. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with selling a car on either Bring a Trailer or Cobra Country. I have had a lot of interest in the car from private buyers and also from a couple of dealers. I'm trying to make the process as painless as I can for myself. Appropriate suggestions, experiences and advice will be warmly welcomed.

Cobra Country is a known niche resource for Cobras so you get serious buyers there. BaT is also great but requires considerably higher seller engagement, photographs and videos to be truly successful and get a better number. The sell time on CC will usually be longer, so you need to be patient there. It works…you just have to be patient and keep your price expectations realistic (no matter where you post). Lots of inventory out there. Good luck!

"As painless as I can for myself" probably would eliminate BAT. It's a great marketplace (I have bought multiple cars there) but to get the most value you need to be a very engaged seller. That means being on there a lot, engaging in a fun and friendly way, answering all questions, and being willing to take additional pics and videos as people request them. If that's not your jam then I'd try the more conventional listing locations.

Cobra Country is easy and probably the best exposure.

BAT has long lead times now... You can probably move it on Cobra Country before BAT slot comes up if you price it right.

Thanks everyone

Solid advice. I have someone coming over tomorrow to look at the car.

I would only use BaT as a last resort, it will probably work, but it will be a PITA

4% commission for the solid advice? :-)

Good question and lots of good feedback.

I have been an advocate of Cobra Country for years. So you know the photo requirements to meet their standards is not for the faint of heart. Plan on spending an hour with Curt on photo direction alone.

My concern is that BAT may have taken away the prominence of Cobra Country. There are so many Cobras presented on BAT I am concerned it may have cannibalized CC advertisers.

BAT does have long lead times for infrequent sellers. And BAT requires many pictures and you should do videos. And you need to monitor and answer the questions. But that would apply to any situation. In fact this is an opportunity to respond and promote your vehicle to the masses' viewing it!!

We and other niche dealers have had VERY good results on BAT achieving over normal retail for the classics (including Cobras) we have listed.

Wish you well with the sale!
