I have a set of Halibrand spinners. Alcoa = after 1969?

The real Mc Coy?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Migge

I was on the fence until I saw the Alcoa logo forged into the backside of the spinner.

I think you have four of the Real McCoy!

My alloy versions are the same, my guess later versions and not Cobra new.
I would support 1969 or later.
From the unused look guessing reproduction.
Does SPF complete the rear stamping ?

How much?

Dominik 12-18-2023 01:05 AM

Hi Migge,

can't confirm real or not, but have another fact: SPF knock-off diameter is (used to be) 0.7mm (30 thou inch) smaller. They won't go over CSX spindles.

And aside from "Alcoa", the look of yours remind me of the ones people could buy from Cobra Restorers/Contemporary Classics in the early 90s. Less bulky than 2000s Trigos or WAW.

Ask Dan Case?

migge 12-18-2023 03:43 AM

I cleaned the spinners, they had little grease inside the thread. I guess maybe a one time use for a demo car etc.
And yes they are slim. With the TRIGO spinners the collar is edge to edge. With the Halibrands I can see 3 pitches of the spindle thread. And they fit!

I don't know if I will used them. If not, how much are they worth? Any offers?

They offer on ebay fake Halibrand spinners with wheel covers for 1.5k Wow!

1985 CCX 12-18-2023 07:42 AM

Based upon the Vintage Wheel site value is $130 each todays price. https://vintagewheelsus.com/index.ph...ndex&cPath=109
That said these are nicer with stampings add a little.

Lynn did a great job in the day with Trigo stuff, not sure its not by him?

They are missing a stamp that would make them SAI and I also would doubt they are that vintage.

If you consider $130.00/each new, Hali marked, fitment? and mark up you might value in the area of $650-$750 bucks plus ride.
But then how do you hold your wheels on?

migge 12-18-2023 08:08 AM

Jeff, $130.00/each??

Show me the place where to buy these new or second hand. It's hard to find spinners with the halibrand logo at all I guess. Just my 2 cents.

$79.00/each for the TRIGOs
https://www.trigowheels.com/Wingnuts.html

and $130.00/each at Vintage wheels

Dan Case said 2018:

"H326A was Ted Halibrand's number for the raw forgings. Raw forgings could be machined and otherwise processed to suit several different types of cars. 6061 is the aluminum alloy and the number without a suffix doesn't describe any stress relieving, aging, or hardening treatments Halibrand put finished parts through.

Blanks (raw unmachined forgings) made before mid summer 1968 (all the originals from SA) were forged by the Harvey Aluminum company and had Harvey's logo on the reverse of one wing. ALCOA bought Harvey Aluminum in mid summer 1968. When ALCOA started forging blanks for Halibrand Engineering the new blanks had ALCOA on them making differentiating Cobra period parts from later parts real easy.

Sometime around maybe 1969 or later a new set of forging dies were made and they of course were marked ALCOA. If you put early and late versions of ALCOA marked parts side by side you can see differences due to different tooling."

Not trying to get you upset...

Yes each.... Not sure used versus new is different?
Not to me anyways...
Think that's the "old" Trigo site, much has changed no?
Bob's pricing is today. Call SPF bet their $800

I do know that alloy stamps easy, I hear Dan as well, just saying as my car was 1996 it has them. Same as yours so not sure they are really special, the extra $ is for the Halibrand name.

The marks on the backside are not stamped in. They are raised like the front. So it is not after the production, it is in the moulding process. Only the black numbers are printed.

Some of the raised lettering looks a little off from the NOS set with a sale receipt date of July 1973. Not as crisp or clean as the manufacturer name, mine were all the same in that regard. I still believe these are vintage, but not that vintage, thinking early 80's vintage (still 40 years old and thus vintage). Price wise, I think you are spot on.

Found these in the trunk of a Maverick.
Bill, I agree 😊

migge 12-19-2023 05:57 AM

For me it doesn't matter if 1969 or later, maybe 80s. I'm happy to find a set at all :-)
