Side Curtains
Some of you followed my hard top project. Part 2 of that was side curtains. A friend loaned me a set of Europa spare’s frames, but the opening of the top was different and the mounded in flange was in the way so I started from scratch. There were a couple of prototypes that didn’t work out, but I eventually ended up with this design. In essence it is 3 inch wide sheet aluminum bent to serve as a lower flange/lower track combination. The main piece is 1/8 polycarbonate. A 1/8 x 1/2 inch aluminum piece was bent on edge to serve as the upper frame/spacer and another piece of polycarbonate was cut 3/4 inch wide to create the upper channel for a sliding section of polycarbonate. A buddy machined 5/8 stainless bolts and drilled into ferrules them to accept 3/8 inch rod as pins. The aluminum pieces were cover in vinyl to dress things up a bit.

Well, a little update. A test drive showed that the windows were being pulled away from the top at speed. I set them up so that they contacted the top before the door closed, hoping the tension would solve this. Not so much, so I came up with two clips. The first is at the top front of the window, and is passive, the window slips behind it as the door closes.
The nut you see here was for fitting, I trimmed the screw and used a nyloc for final fitting. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...18-193305.jpeg The second clip is attached to the window further back, you just turn it after you’re in the car. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../IMG_1294.jpeg We did a 175 mile lunch run after installing these and all worked well. We were comfortable even though the temperature was about 40. No rattles leaks or whistles, so we’ll call it good, |
Really nice attention to detail.
