Replacement for 305 rear tires

Just got my Superformance SC and need new tires. What are folks using these days.

What size wheels are you running? (15, 17, 0r 18)?

I ran Michelin PS2 335/35-17 and liked 'em. These are still available, 3 others that I ran no longer are.

There are many 315s in 17" and a few 335s. 305 isn't as common.

It's generally best to run similar (not size) tires front and rear. If the rears are worn out the fronts are probably aged out.

I am running 15" wheels. Should have mentioned that in the original post.

However, as a follow-up: is it difficult to find tire dealers that can balance the pin drive wheels??

Pin / Lug bolts No difference in balancing or mounting.

295 is probbably as big as you're going to get in a 15" size.
Balancing pin drive wheels is no problem. Have had many done at big tire chains.

On ERA407 I had Bill Boards "Goodyear Vintage Sportscar Eagle Cobra Tires" (26.5 x 8.0-15) front part #478-2546 at JEGS and (26.5 x 10-15) rear part #478-2547. Great for shows and short local trips. But these are not suited to long trips and they do hunt and follow seams. I started taking much longer trips with the local Cape Coral Cobra Club (2 to 3 hundred miles) and changed over to Goodyear Eagle GT ii Radial TA 295/50R15 rear and 245/60R15 front. Don't think you can get these anymore unless from vintage tire dealer (read EXPENSIVE). Probably would go to BFGoodrich for long road trips.

Billboards are NOT DOT approved for road use. They are bias ply tires. As such they are more susceptible to sidewall damage. The risk is that if you are in a wreck and your tire blew out it's a target for a law suit since your tires are technically not street legal.

On the other hand, remember that Ken Miles ran those same tires on the Mulsanne Straight at almost 200mph...

I was offered for a ridiculously low price a set of billboards and asked the guy why he was changing and he said "worst tire I ever drove"...

I the Nitto NT555RII is available in 325/50R15, but I have no idea what tire you'd run on the front. I'll also note they're 27.8" in diameter.
