How do I get the battery/battery box out? ERA

I am new to the ERAs, not to working on things, but trying to figure out how this all comes apart LOL
The forums say from the pass side rear fender, but everything looks to be bonded together (see pic), however there is plenty to unbolt) From in the trunk it looks like a battery box, likely due to old racing background, which had a tie strap over the top, but neither the cover comes off or the boix itself. Thinking that maybe the bolts from the bottom allow it to roll out past the fuel neck. Poor old girl is dead as a doornail Thoughts BTW I have two other pics, going to try to load seperately in replies |

From memory: 1) Remove the front passenger wheel and the four lower horizontal button head cap screws (hex driven) from the bottom of the wheel well access panel. 2) Also from the wheel well, remove the two lower shorter button head cap screws from the vertical side of the panel and a longer one at the very top. 3) From inside the engine bay, remove the three button head cap screws on the engine side of the access panel. Ease the panel out towards the front of the car. 4) Disconnect the positive battery cable at the starter solenoid. Wrap the copper eyelet with some tape to avoid scratches. 5) Remove the single battery hold down bolt from the battery. Pull the battery out with the positive cable still attached.

Thanks guys, I got it.
I had to remove the fuel neck and there were two nuts from the bottom that held the battery box and battery in place. Then it rolled inward in the trunk. I don't see any way this one could have come out through the wheelwell. It was a pain, but now I know what it wants, it's just fat man/small trunk compaining :) Ironically, the car has all kinds of big dollar parts, but had about the cheapest Walmart battery, completely dead and undersized. Will need to look at other options. I am thinking an AGM, in the same battery box, but maybe executed a little more neatly. |
