Fords Answer for outlawed Webers

This is what Ford developed for the Trans Am series in 1969/70. Two of these were used on the Boss 302 engine. These were ultimatly outlawed and they were forced to use 2 conventional 4150 holleys and in some cases even dominator series Holleys. Their use was short lived. Unusual to say the least. Rick |
See'em at the swaps all the time . Priced around $4-500. Guys selling them claim they run great. Somebody in the know that sees you carrying one around that you just bought will just laugh at you. They leak like old Panhead , run wide open or nuthin'. Still would like to have a couple on a 'B 429. Maybe just use them for throttle bodies on an EFI system.

Yea the transition circuts were very poor, made drivability difficult, never worked on them but years ago drag raced a Maverick (one of Fords better ideas) with a Boss 302 with one of these on it. At the time it was more of a novelty than a performance enhancer.

I believe a member of this board has what appears to be a pair of these mounted on a converted 6x2 crossram intake. Looks pretty awesome.
I know they came in two sizes, don't know much else about them. First I'd heard about drivability problems, maybe someone who's messed with Webers is needed? |
mr bruce is right: Strictly race applications only, wide open or nuthin' ! And no real transition circuits to speak of. Dont know anything about leaks, though. This is according to my mechanic co-worker with all the "R" code, early '60s Fords, 427 SOs, and SOHC engines. It would look great, though, as a conversation piece on a mantle, or to really wow 'em at a car show!! Edley

Ford made two different Autolite Inlines;
. 850 cfm . 1400 cfm Don't know which this one is, but I saw a 1400 autolite inline for sale over on the Boss 302 site and the guy wanted $ 1,700.00 for it. I had a 850 on a cross boss manifore with spacer plates from Bud Moore mounted on a Boss 351 in a 66 Mustang Shelby Clone in 1982. Everyone is completely right on how they run. WOT they run great and that's what they were built for. I did get mine to run at lower speeds and idle but never was as good as a Holley at those ranges. It sure looks neat. I actually had saw as Boss 302 in Detroit in the mid 80s that had two side by side.... |

I have a Hot Rod mag from 1970 with those on the cover. Pretty cool but I'll stick with a single holley double pumper.

Had a friend that ran a single one (the smaller model) on a Green '70 Boss 302, he wasn't impressed, except for the looks. They used the same inner parts as the 1 bbl carbs to cut cost some and to insure availability of most parts later on. They were the same bore spacing of the small block(4.38) to allow a straight shot into each cylinder of a small block (in this case the Boss 302).
