So I started selling off my 1/18th scale Cobras, and began concentrating on the more expensive lines of 1/43 rd (Marsh, Superior, HiTech, Newcon, Provence-Moulage, etc.).

I have boxes of Cobra models and kits in 1/43rd, that "someday" I plan to build a nice diorama of what my shop would look like if I could win the lotto AND go back in time (I'm hoping that now that I have recently retired, I'll get a chance to work on that diorama).

Here is one of my most treasured 1/43rd models, that was professionally built from a "Superior" Cobra kit (the unbuilt kit sells for around $300). The hood, doors, and trunk open and close, and the engine is wired. There is even plumbing from the twin SW 240's in the trunk! I have only seen two other models like this one, and they were selling for $2500 each!

Perhaps that is because Jeff's post was originally posted on 12-28-2002, 08:41 AM

I have 1/24 Scale NASCAR diecast and Ford Dealer promos in plastic except for a few diecasts. I have 25 or so 1/18 diecast Cobras in most colors and both tail light styles.
I would like a solid red 1/18 diecast Cobra to match my Backdraft.

I have been hoarding other stuff lately.

Did you build this beautiful model?

Did some Cobras have the boot opening the other way?

I collect the, I probably have 15 or 20 plus the 6 Daytona Coupes from Exoto. When I ordered the set they were just producing one a month end if you got the whole set they wold then make a stainless one highly polished for you. I have been offered $500 for the Stainless one and Exoto doesn't make them any more from what I have heard. I got sever from them and their detail is exact and signed by Shelby. But they were expensive even back then. I have had people come over to look at them who were building a Coupe to see how the originals were done.

I also have about 1,200 other die casts in boxes that I have no room to display. Some are just cheapies and others are rare NASCAR cars such as the one that Dale Earnhardt crashed at Talladega, right down to the last bent piece of metal. This was not the car he was killed in. So far as I could find out they never made a model of that one or I would have it.

Yes. This picture of a Kirkham should help you understand why...

When you are racing with a factory hardtop, you would not want to remove the hardtop to open the trunk.

Of course the Kirkham trunk opens more ways than an original.

Nice to see this thread awakened after almost ten years. This is a subject that interests myself and many other model car enthusiasts, and hopefully will stay in gear. I too have several Cobras in scale, both die cast and plastic/resin/metal kits that are or will get built. A great hobby, and nice to be included here on CC.

OK -

Here's an update to my post from 2002:

Gofastoldguy - fixed the photo link

saklans1 - I have THREE Superior kits - one built into a copy of CSX3002 (shown in my earlier post), and two brand-new, unbuilt kits.

http://saacforum.com/galleryc/albums...28Large%29.JPG http://saacforum.com/galleryc/albums...28Large%29.JPG

Update on pricing since 2002: not very many Superior kits come up on e-Bay, but it appears they are going for somewhere around $600-700 these days
in unbuilt condition. I will take $700 each for my unbuilts, or $1200 for the pair. The finished one I would take $2,000 for.

My biggest issue is that, since moving to Florida a few months ago, most of my models are in storage, and I can't seem to find anything. But, if one of
you guys wants a Superior Cobra model kit bad enough, I'll start digging in the storage area to find them.

Okay, so who's got the Limited Edition Franklin Mint 1:12 scale Pewter 427 Shelby Cobra? It weighs 8 lbs, cost $1000.00. My neighbor has one, and it's awesome. Only 1,000 made.

I have one that I got as a gift from my Sister. I painted my car Lambo titaniom silver. Looks kind of similar.

One of the quick jacks was damaged in shipping though. I've kept the box. It lives in my front room in the house.

The model has no stripes, nor does mw car.
