Cobra Coupe (What is it?)
1 Attachment(s)
OK all you Cobra experts out there. Here are a couple of pictures of a Cobra Coupe. It has a 427 and a full aluminum body. As far as I know it's a one of a kind. These were taken about 10 years ago when a friend of mine in England did the paint restoration. That's about all I know about the car. I have a few theory's as to what it is but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone knows first hand.

CSX3055. Willamet coupe, body by Ghia.Body found in junkyard(where it should have stayed), put on Cobra chassis by Willamet. FUGLY!!!
|
The body does look very Italian, so Ghia doesn't surprise me. Strange mix of Italian body, british chassis and american iron. I didn't think it looked 'that' bad!

Looks like a cross between a Gullwing MB and Jaguar. I kind of like it. Wrong motor of course.

Ghia, as a designer, is SO over rated. The tail fins on this car are obviously to small for it to be the European Batmobile. Maybe it's Robins car?

C'mon Brucey.......that is one good looking car. After your Cheetah and Daytona, that should be your next project. A lot of Ferrari in the sculpting. I like the short windshield. Don't have to worry about a $50,000 engine overhaul, either. I'd own that little jewel in a heart beat.

I agree with CAL i think the car looks great and is a fascinating part of cobra history. If anyones interested i know of two magazines that had features on the car.
CAR AUGUST 1967
CLASSIC & SPORTSCAR MAGAZINE OCTOBER 1994
Both are British magazines and worth finding.

Part MB Gullwing, part Corvette.. Part MG.. Part Studabaker.. I vote for it being Robin's car.

Sorry Cal, my version of "the Turd" is on the table now. That red turd is gonna hafta wait.

As you guys were so good on identifying the car does anyone know its whereabouts? I understand that after the paint restoration it went to Hong Kong as a part of a collection.

I would take it. Looks interesting and you know that no one else has one.
To me I see a bit Gullwing, a bit of Camaro 72-74 (Aacck!), and a smidgen of the new BMW Z8 plus a smidgen of Ferrair due to the color.
