How big can we go with the brakes in a 15 inch wheel?

I would like to be able to do repeated high speed stops wihout fade. Should I go with 16 inch wheels? I would like to keep the "look" close to original. . .

Ive got 11.6 inch disks from a Mark VII on 15" rims. I'd say thats about how big you could go. Jim

Brakes

The material thickness of the aluminum wheels limits us to some extent but don't the Winston Cup cars use 15" wheels? In road race trim they use some pretty hefty brake rotors and calipers?

We went with the 12.2" rotors with Sierra calipers for our ERA. They are beautiful.

Rich,
The Winston Cup cars use 12.75 rotors but they also use a 9.5 inch wide front wheel which will clear the calipers. A wheel less than 9.5 won't clear the calipers.

Where do you buy these brakes?

Here's one place to start looking.

The brake set-up will be determined by the spindle and suspension your car will use. Often times a special hub, or at least modifications to the original will be needed to adapt the larger rotors. And mounting brackets for the caliper. And the inner shape of the wheel has to be taken into consideration to clear the caliper. Get the picture?

Parts such as rotors and calipers are available all over. Check some of the magazines, especially circle track ones, to get names of some of the circle or road RACER suppliers, rather than the more drag racing oriented places like Jegs and Summit

Probably you should decide on a brand first, then ask them what they recommend.
