Shawn,
Let's have the "meat" (sometimes I just kill myself) of the information. Driveline specs(Ford, GM, something else), chassis specs(Mustang II, independant, or wagon wheel), etc and so forth. Otherwise (and I really hate to say this), you do indeed sound like a huckster of sorts....... Yours In Fords, Bill S. |
Since Sean insists on teasing us lets guess possible one donor vehicles
Transverse V8 motors Caddy Northstar motor-might be fine but not a ford and transverse Taurus v8 SHO- Ford V8 but still wrong direction and limited availability Correct arrangement of engine tranny Ford/chevy mated to a porsche transaxle-not a one donor and expensive? Ford/chevy mated to a audi transaxle-not a one donor and still expensive? Engine/transaxle out of a Pantera-very expensive donor and very limited availability old buick riveria/caddy eldorado-big heavy motor not a ford any others? |
Hey, guys, it was just an update.
When it goes into production, it'll get a banner ad and everything. Right now, I'm not selling anything so it's not really huckstering. The chassis is completely custom - no Fiero involved at all (besides, it's too tall!). The Single Donor is exactly that: a single donor kit. The Ford V8 engine is mounted as per the original car. In my opinion - yours may vary - you don't put a Chevy motor in a GT40. I swear that this will all make sense when you see the whole picture. The reason I put the dash up is because I am looking for any input on it. The lights are in a differnt place than the original (mostly because I think they're easier to see), and I'm leaning towards either VDO or Autometer gauges. I really don't want to use Smiths, because I've seen too many of them have problems, and I want the kit to be as trouble-free as possible. Every part you have to exchange is just more down time for your cars. If you guys have any suggestion for the types of gauges, switches, or dash layout, please let me know. I am looking at different gauge packages, but I'm not finding the right white/black gauges with a 200 mph speedo. Your pal, Meat. |

Shawn,
I eagerly await your design and cost analysis on this donor GT40 concept vehicle....... Bill S. PS: Turk, As the owner of Road Serpent #003, I'm still waiting for all of those backordered parts in order to finish my kit. In particular, the frame........ |
Bill,
I am sorry I can't help. Will you accept two 5 foot Blue Spruce, instead? Thanks for your patience. TURK |

As far as cost goes, the kit's still at $14,900 for the kit, and donors are available for prices rangine from as little as $1K (wrecked), $2K (ugly) or $11.5K (really pretty and a shame to use as a donor). What other design and cost analysis are you looking for? Your pal, Meat. |

I say we set up a big pool. Everyone puts in $1, and we pick an engine/trans combo we think meat is gonna use.
We can do another pool on what the donor will be. -steve in nj- |

It's not for sale. I am actively looking for input on the product so that it can be the best that it can be by posting updates on it. I'm encouraging them to get all of the updates from a mailing list. The product is still not for sale. I direct people to the place where the information is available. It's still not for sale yet, and I've clearly said that I'll put up a banner as soon as the product is for sale. So no, I don't believe that I'm advertising any product or service that is currently for sale. On the other hand, I'm agreeing with you that if there is a product or service offered for sale, then by all means a banner ad should be purchased before advertising the company, product or service on this here site. As an air conditioning contractor (service advertised) working for Gator Air Conditioning (company advertised), wouldn't you agree? http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...067#post310067 Your pal, Meat. |
Whatever the donor, it absolutely MUST have some iteration of the 4.6 l DOHC engine if it is to be successful.
The new Ford GT will have a DOHC all-aluminum version of this engine and if showing this one-donor vehicle off to today's generation, that's the only engine family that'll do. Must, must have a DOHC modular Ford engine in the engine bay (leave room for the 427 V10?). |
The biggest issue with the 4.6 is that it's HUGE!.
http://home.pacbell.net/mmmeat/46vs50.jpg Also, the exhaust ports are way angled wrong. It can be done...I'm pretty sure...I'm guessing...I dunno, I'll ask the engineer fella. While externally the M40 replicates a rather famous '60s racer, the chassis underneath is a thoroughly modern setup. They did manage to put a big block under the MkIIs, and the 4.6 is ... well, dimensionally a bit bigger, but pretty close...maybe... Your pal, Meat. |
