Barrett-Jackson -- first day pics including 'ol Shel

Went to Barrett-Jackson today. (Scottsdale)

Some observations:

• There is NO WAY there are as many cars here as last year.
• Not nearly the variety of interesting cars aside from a lot of Mustangs, Shelbys and the presence of Carroll Shelby and all the cars they brought (like a dozen or so...)
• Got to see 'ol Shel. Gettin' up there in years. (80!).
• Even though I haven't been happy with his views on the replica industry, it was still cool to see him.
• Almost walked right in to Brock Yates. As I stopped myself he realized that I recognized him. (You know -- the "Wow, you're Brock Yates" dumb look on my face... LOL). I told him I was a fan of his. He asked me how I was enjoying the show and bid me a good day. Nice guy.

I'm sure there's a lot more to cover. Chime in with more.

Over 80 pictures to see here (click on the link below) including a couple with CS. LOT's of Cobra photos. (What did you expect! :3DSMILE:

Enjoy.

Ben

Ben
Thank you very much. Great photos. Gives the rest of us who are less fortunate a get a glimpse of what is going on over there.
Any chance to get some additional information on the company making or selling those model Cobras?
Would be greatly appreciated.

computerworks -- I don't plan on going back. I'd guess that one of the Arizona Cobras will go, however, and they read the forum regularly. I'd bet one of them will be able to make notes... As I said on the photo notes, CSX 3060 is beautiful. I think most (or probably all) of the cars outside at the Shelby display are continuation cars. By the way, they list the 289 at $91,000.

Turk -- glad you liked the pictures. Love that digital camera! (4 megapixel Minolta*). Those models are made by the Franklin Mint. They don't list it on their web site for some reason -- perhaps too limited. The guy at the display said only 100 of the 1,000 being made are still availble. Truly beautiful work.
I have a friend going back tomorrow. I'll see if he can pick up the guy's business card.

Ben

* -- If anyone wants a higher resolution version of any of those photos, just e-mail me to let me know the one(s) you want.

Turk, Ron

You thinking what I'm thinking? $1000 for the bare naked model vs. what we're paying?

Ben

Great pics--thanks for sharing them with us.:3DSMILE:

I would love to have one, but at $1000.00???
For that amount, it better be signed by Mr Franklin himself or Mr. Mint...

Ben, did you see a right-hand-drive orange 57 Chev - Blown & injected Pro Street style?

That car just won the highest show award in Australia, then he shipped it off for the BJ auction. He had hoped to take it some major shows in the US first, but time didn't allow it.

I'm interested to see what it sells for!

Has anyone shown Evan the rivet spacing on CSX3060??? :D

Tongue Pirate 01-17-2003 08:27 AM

The bare aluminum large scale model is not worth the money. Recently I was at store in our area that carries the whole Franklin mint collection. They had both the 1:20th scale Cobra and the large (1:12?) scale Cobra. The price of the 1:20th is $120.00. This one has a lot more detail than the large one, plus it is more accurate.

Great pic, thanks.

Any of you "tin" boys want a "bare nekkid" model one to go with your "tin" one--you'll need to save your nickels and dimes--

Then bid on a Franklin Mint 427 S/C "nekkid " one that is on it's way to auction off @ DVSF III for Team Jenny:)

Thanks for the comments, guys. I really enjoy seeing the cars.

And no, I didn't buy anything. Love that red 289, but I'm about $90 grand short. :p That blue one up on the transport lift was cool too. I guess I've developed a taste for slabsides! Always liked wire wheels too...

B-J Auction live on SPEED Channel

Watched part of the Auction on TV last night - they're on again today from 4:00PM-9:00PM.

Did you guys notice the full-size aluminum Cobra hanging UPSIDE DOWN and spinning around like a party sphere in the auction area? Pretty incredible. I thought at first was only a fake body, but, in one of the shots of it, I could see fans mounted in front of the radiator.

Ben -
Thanks for sharing your pictures.

regards,

cobarjeff
