Tom,

The bids are already up to $4,850. and it hasn't met reserve yet. What do you think it's worth?

By the time you pay that much for the block and have it completed into a working engine, you will have probably spent more than you could have. If you wish, Bill Parham at Southern Automotive can build you an engine from an NOS side-oiler block. His adder for using an NOS block is more reasonable than this guy's current bid. And he offers a warranty!

Sorry for sounding like an infomercial, but I really think Bill offers a better deal in this case.

All the major FE hard parts such as crank, block, heads, rods and intake manifold are going to total over $20K. Your guess is as good as mine as to what this block will sell for, but a true NOS side-oiled block may go for around 7K or more! What's it worth? Whatever the guy can get for it!**)

 $5300.00
Approximate current bid. Why spend that kind of money when you can buy a brand new alum block and not have to worry about overboring and cracks on a 38 year old block. Makes no sense to me. Been there, done that. my profile says it all.

Southern Automotive offers an NOS block as a 3k option on their sideoiler, a new aluminum block is a 4k option. I would spend my money there before I went to Ebay.

I think there were a lot of NOS blocks that were sold off into the general market by Ford that were in actuality, quality-control rejects. They may look ok, but there may be flaws, casting issues...tread with caution. They were left in the box for a reason?

computerworks 01-22-2003 10:00 PM

...seller identifies it as a C5AE-G block.

Have any of you FE gurus seen that number before?

(...not in any of my lists or books) (!)

bmalone 01-22-2003 11:12 PM

Never seen the change code "G" affixed to any 427. Doesn't mean its not possible, though.

KobraKarl 01-22-2003 11:26 PM

Im no FE guru but its not in book either.........

Turk 01-23-2003 12:05 AM

The block will sell for 6450.00!!
Let's see how close I come.

We must all have the same books. I can't find the number either. Southern Automotive has a service block NOS, not a C5ae-block. I beleive their block is a C8ae-0 casting which means that it's ribbed and is set up for hydraulic lifters. Good block but if it's not going to be accurate anyway go for the Shelby! Save some weight too!;)

Interesting...One went for $7350. last week..

My guess is the book you are all referring to is Steve Christ's HPBook "How to Rebuild Your Big-Block Ford". As you'll know from the book, C5 means it's a 1965 part. The "A" is for Ford division and "E" is for Engine & Foundry.

The suffix is the engineering change level to the casting, albeit small. Since there is an E and H change, there had to be F and G changes, which doesn't mean they made it any farther than drawings. But seeing is believing. We can see C5AE-G from the photos. Such things do slip through the cracks (pardon the pun) at big corporations, but what I think is Steve just didn't find a block with that suffix in print or on a hard part. So I think you can count on this one to be genuine. The only thing I can't tell is whether it is a top oiler or side oiler because the seller didn't say or include a right-side photo of the lower part of the block.

Speed.

well put.

I dont think any one doubts its authenticity. but maybe its provenance.
