MKIV,

Not so much amused as happy people are interested in our products. I am truly grateful we are somewhat accepted into this great industry. We have worked very hard to get here. It has been a long, long road.

Many thanks to you all.

David:) :) :)

ps. put the radiator in Jenny's car today. Now...just the suspension and the interior and it's off to DV.

Excaliber 01-30-2003 12:46 AM

,,,that radiator wasn't from Jamo's car of course.....

Got my calculator out, hmmm,,,,,it's very interesting......

Bill,

We could make an aluminum car if you wanted. The minimum order is 25 cars.

David:) :) :)

mrmustang 01-30-2003 03:38 PM

You give me a price, I'll get you the 25 orders.....

David Kirkham 01-30-2003 05:55 PM

Bill,

Drop me an e-mail and we'll talk.

We have been asked several times why we would sell a car at no reserve.

Well, we feel a car with no reserve lets people know we are serious about selling the car. No one wants to play the game of "Where is that guys reserve?". Everyone knows from the start the car is truly for sale--whatever the price is, it is.

We also do it for advertising. We feel e-bay gives us good exposer and we thing (and hope) the car will do well. Who knows, it may not do well--but that is a chance we are willing to take.

For the million people who have called and asked, "How much can I finish the car for?" Well that depends on what you want to do to it. We could easily finish the car for 20K. (No engine, no trans). Most could finish it for much less. Depends on brakes, interior, suspension modifications, engine ($$$), how many parts you have hidden in the closet, etc.

The bar has been raised.

Sothernfriedgoodcop: Please don't bid the car higher. I'm poor and baby needs a new Cobra.

Southernfriedbadcop: Ok ladies, y'all quit bidding my car up or I'll send BiB over to give you a vasectomy with his sword.:3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

Looks like the car's heading south.

We have been asked by several customers, “How much will it cost to finish the 289 car on e-bay?”

Well, that depends on how much you are willing to spend, how accurate you want the car to be. If you are willing to sacrifice a SMALL amount of authenticity, then you can save an incredible amount of money finishing the car. Do you want to complete the car “exact as original”, or do you just want a really cool car. There are even some things which can be done to improve the car—for less money, such as brakes. Authenticity is expensive.

Also, “exact as original” is really dependant on what you think was original. There were only a few of the FIA ever cars made. All were heavily modified over the years to make them more competitive. What year of “exact as original” do you want? All of them were different. The last “completely accurate”, (or better said, most accurate we could figure out), FIA we made sold for 75K--no engine, trans. Are you really interested in the correct color wires in the wiring harness, correct fuse boxes, correct fuses, correct tach, switches, (original switches are almost non-existent), Girling brakes? Some of those parts are unbelievably expensive...like the tach. How about an ignition switch…FIA cars didn’t have them. Are you sure you want a button on your dash so ANYONE could reach in and start your car? Do you really need an original type differential in your car, or are you willing to have a virtually identical differential in your car—for $3000 less.

20K to finish the car will make you a great car. Our 20K quote would get you a car that is extremely close to the original...without all the expensive parts. 99.999% of all people in the world will not know the difference. 20K would let you finish the car with Wilwood racing brakes, bare interior, (remember, some of the original FIA cars did not have expensive carpet or leather in the interior as they were really race cars. They were just painted black). It really depends on what you want in the car to figure out how much you want to spend.

There are many ways to keep the cost of finishing the car down. If you put aftermarket brakes on the car--almost everyone does now--you can save quite a bit of money as well. The original gauges are expensive and if you use Autometer gauges, you can save some money. Original switches on the dash are extremely expensive. If you use 427 switches, you can save quite a bit of money and who, besides Computerworks, can tell? I don't see a problem finishing the car for 20K if you make those kinds of adjustments. All of these suggestions are quite acceptable and most “experts” will never know the difference.

Also, most of the cost in finishing the car can be held down if you don't spend too much money on the engine. A standard engine straight out of the box is enough to have some real fun with. You won't be competitive at the track, but most of our driving skills--mine included--can't drive these cars as fast as they will go anyway. Most customers are just fooling themselves thinking they are Mario Andretti.

We are happy to help you work through all of that now, as the bidding won't end for a while yet. Just let us know what you would like and we will be happy to quote it for you so you can make up your mind however you like.

Now, some people are saying that Kirkham doesn’t make an exact as original car anymore…well, YES we do…it just costs a lot more. We are just trying to expand our market to include more people.

Thanks for the interest,

David

David,

As one of the masses who would have to think long and hard about the added expense of originality - I for one thank you for working to help out those of us who haven't quite hit the lottery!;) ;)

The more I think about it - your FIA with the 427 chassis looks like a real winner and I applaud your efforts. Please keep up the great work.

Regards,

Keith

David,
About the performance of the cars and the fact that they are well outside the driving abilities of most...You couldn't be more right!

Saturday at SAAC, the fastestgcar was clearly a nice little blue car suspension tuned to the umpteenth degree by Tom in Las Vegas. Automatic and a 302 crate motor with under 300 HP.

Until a mishap in the fuel vent line starting a small fire the car was running incredibly fast.
I may have a picture or two to post.

oops!

David Kirkham 02-03-2003 01:00 PM

Turk,

You are right...the ability to drive fast is much more important than an engine that will do it. Anyone who has ridden with a real driver can attest to that fact. Dralle could kick my butt with a 200 hp car.

Keith,

The car on e-bay right now does not have a 427 chassis under it. it is the standard 289 chassis. However, we are contemplating...

Got Snake,

There is no problem with a 351 engine in the e-bay car. I would, however, personally recommend the 427 chassis under a 289 body for that combination though as the chassis is much stiffer for the added HP. Unfortunately, we don't make many of those cars.

DK, your posts are a shameless TTT to try and take my sweet little car from my cheap little hands. May your butt crack itch for a week if I get out bid(old German curse)! ;) I haven't seen such puffing since Barrett Jackson!:3DSMILE:

Jamo 02-03-2003 07:28 PM

I happen to find that particular curse a little frightening.
