Help out the new guy!
Hello to all. I have to say I am quite impressed with all of you. It is good to see that there are more car nuts around.
Well I am going right to the point. I just joined up and I have been hunting around for about 6 months looking into building a Cobra Kit. I am down to 2. B&B and Factory Five. Can anyone help me out as to the pros and cons of each? So I can get some direction as to which way I should go. I will be doing all of the work myself, including the paint...Provided my spray equipment sill works that is..HAHA I am going to look at someones misfortune (money troubles) tomorrow it is a 2000 Factory Five that is about half complete.. Also is there anyone in the Chicago land area with either of these kits that is will to show off a little? Thanks Fred |
Welcome to the club Fred. Just make sure that the half finished car has been constructed to a decent standard otherwise you will spend more time and money fixing someone else's mistakes than if you had have bought a new kit yourself. Goodluck, Andy.

With the "softness" of the current economy and the associated softness in the "Cobra "market , I would take a hard look at completed cars .At current prices you can darn near buy a decent completed car for the price of a comple kit, Course if you gotta build yor own, your own way, i totally understand.... |

Here! Here! AC Andy. Get yourself a good education on current Cobra configurations so you can critically assess the partially completed build. Spend more time on the becoming an educated consumer first, and avoid expensive mistakes. You could very well spend more time ripping out previous builders substandard components and replacing them, than if you had started from scratch with a new unassembled kit.
You could get a completed kit already on the street for the same money, although the above still applies. |
Even if he does buy a partially built kit, I'm sure he will be pulling a lot of the car apart anyway. I am new at this but I have put a part on the chassis, then removed and repositioned and/or re-designed. After I am happy with the component I go to another part and put it on the chassis. Pretty soon I am back to the part I put on and find out that the next component interfers with the component I thought I had perfected. I hate specialty headers!!!
My point after this long drawn out post is that it is up to the builder to make sure he is happy with what he produces. Sure I have not driven my Cobra yet, but I am having the time of my life bringing it to life. It has actually become a priority to touch every bolt in the car. Kirk |
