Baldwin-Motion Cobra
I recently picked up a die cast model of the Baldwin-Motion King Cobra. I didn't even realize there was one back then and was wondering if anyone had any photo's or info on this car? (CSX#, ect.) According to the info on the box there were two built, one was a 289 and the other was a 427 both which held National records.

That's what I remembered but it seems like Joel Rosen worked some of his magic on these two cars also.
Growing up in Chicago we had Nickey (backwards K) Chevrolet and Grand Spaulding Dodge for the street racers but I always had a thing for a Baldwin Phase III Vette. That's why I was surprised to hear about these two Cobras. |
CSX 3159 is the car you are referring to. Joel Rosen's Motion Performance did the modifications for drag racing. Known as the "King Cobra" it ran AA/SP and set a Nascar National Record at 10.3 @ 133mph. It was originally a street car with wide rear fender modifications.

...pressed for time right now, but I can add some info later.
I raced at the same tracks that Baldwin/Motion raced at in the 60's. Motion was a speed shop here on Long Island... did a lot with many brands until they cut a deal with Baldwin Chevrolet to do a Yenko-style deal with Camaros. Recently, I contacted the orig owner of Motion to find out more about the Cobra connection, but he was less than thrilled to talked about any of it. |
