I wasn't even considering traction control, too early in the morning I guess. I go to the F1 race in Montreal every year and I can tell you there is a hugh difference in the way those cars are driven compared to a couple of years ago. Now, once they get to a certain point in the corner, they appear to literally hammer it to the floor and let the traction control take care of things. Before traction control, the drivers would have to be much more cautious with the loud pedal when exiting a low speed corner or else they would end up pointing the wrong way. :LOL: Thanks, Wayne |
Theres been an on going argument in our office about accelleration being best with NO wheel slip vs some wheel slip. I've always contended that acelleration is maximum with "some" wheel slip. Mostly, no one believes me (but hey, there all "bench racers anyway), lol.
It sounds like the 14% slip rate would in fact support the theory of a little slip = max acelleration? Ernie |

I believe that you are correct since a race track will be quite a bit blacker after the race than before, especially at the exit from corners. That colour change is due to rubber being added to the surface and that won't happen unless the tires are slipping, at least a bit. Wayne |
Right! Your engine should have enough power to reach maximum tire SLIP, or up to the point that tire SPIN occurs. The difference between slip and spin is static vs. dynamic grip. At the point the tires break loose from accelerating or cornering, grip drops of dramatically.:CRY:

I voted with the impression that I was being asked how much HP was too much, hence I voted 500+. Had I paid attention to the question in the voting box (instead of the thread title) I would've voted differently. You're right, though. Guesses are only guesses. What really matters is what the chassis dyno prints on paper. I plan to do that very soon, myself. Keith :) |
