No Cobra's in Fast and Furious, sequel

read my new Autoweek, long article about the cars in the upcoming Fast and Furious sequel. For some of the cars, they held a big car show in Fla, over 500 cars there, picked out many to be in the movie.

They tossed out all the Cobra's, so none in this movie. Sounds like a nice assortment of muscle cars, though, Hemi Challanger, Yenko Camaro, and such. But no Snakes. The director got rid of the ones chosen.

I wonder if is because any prominent Cobra's would cause too much automotive interest in a single car, and reduce the interest in all the other cars, many of course highly modified imports.

Of course, it would be apparent that any Cobra's would be replicas, and this might dilute the authenticity of the cars in the movie. Of course, if you put several hundred pounds of plastic on a Honda or RX-7, it too becomes a kit car of sorts.

But in my imagination, the Cobra's were eleminated because there is no other car that is so universally recognized as the epitome of brutal performance. And it would take away the interest in the Rice Cars.

Sort of like making a movie with a lot of pretty woman, then having Marlyn Monroe, or Catherine Denuve, or the like show up, and upstate them all. I don't think any one car gets to be the star of the next F & F, and a Cobra would do that.

Inconceivable, perhaps, but I'm afraid most of the ricer crowd wouldn't understand the significance of the Cobra. Perhaps when they grow up...

Hal,
I posted my thoughts on the last movie and they were not favorable. Thank goodness there is no Cobras in the next movie. I would rather see a Cobra represented in a movie that would be worth seeing. This director and the producer are obviously juviniles . I did get a good laugh out of the last movie at some of the rediculous scenes they made.

Awww that's easy,,,,, you see the movie folks were looking for the "BEST" cobra for the film,,,,,,

sooooo, exactly what would that be????

A CSX continuation car???A Kirkham,,,or SPF,,,maybe ERA,,,,
nnnnnnnope.

They were looking for a cobra with 20 inch gold dayton wire wheels, a complete hydraulic suspension,,,,1500watt stereo,,,daul carbon fiber rear wing that makes a plymouth superbird's look tiny,,oh and wild graphics on the side stating all of the ultra cool equipment it has, like "naaauws",,,,,

yeahhhhh boyyyyy, there's the perfect cobra for 'em.

Man, whatever happened to films like "The Godfather, Lemans, American Graffiti"???? Am I just getting old,,,or does 90 percent of what comes from hollywood just plain reak of ca-ca?

I know where there is such a car. I am not sure about the wheels though!

The star rice burner car for this movie was painted by a painter that lives here in Cape Coral, Fl. He actually painted up 7 cars because they distroyed most of them. I think he might be the painter who could paint a Cobra where the paint starts peeling back and exposes a snake skin and the head of a Cobra.

I had to watch F&F 3 times just to see it and not laugh. I told the wife that I was going to buy a rice burner so I can put 400hp of nitrous in it, have it blow up, parts flying everywhere, and still have it picking up speed! That was when she started laughing and understood what I was laughing about. This movie reminded of the show Dallas, when Bobby found out the whole season was nothing but a dream.

It's a good thing there aren't in Cobras in The Slow and the Ridiculous II. If it's anything like the first one, all the American muscle cars will be portrayed as much slower than the 100hp Civic with 300 stickers on it (making it now a 500hp Civic).

If there were a Cobra in the movie, it would get beat by the ricers, then in real life, all the kids with Civics would think their Civics are actually faster than a Cobra - it was in the movie.

On a side note, I was at the Keystone dealer event this weekend...APC (or was it Street Glow) had the "Vin Deisal" car at the show...Cute, some show, but an awful lot of go fast goodies under the hood as well...Straight line, it would give us a run for our money.........First turn, we would eat it alive...........Just my own personal observance.......

I went to the Cincinati car show this past Xmas. They had a few of the F&F cars there. I was surprised to see how "plain jane" the Charger was. Looks like they took tin snips to cut a hole in the hood for the blower. But hey, it looked good on the screen.

I liked the movie myself! It is after all just a movie.

Saw F&F on the second opening day...big mistake...ricers everywhere! Hollywood is going cheap...F&FII is for the import crowd. Biker boys? ah the biker crowd maybe? What happened to all the good writers? Matrix is going to be good though can't wait for that to come out.

The F&F is for the young generation, us old guys will never understand the apeel of a front drive rice rocket. Not to say that the kids don't spend money on them, some have more bucks in their car than any of us and I can appreciate their handywork. I usually get coments like ' woe , nice car mister! ' Somehow I've got a mister tittle, but that's OK, a little respect or manners never hurt.:D

Maybe there is some rice money backing this nonsense  A few years back an old girl friend of mine had a company in LA that rented cars to the movies. Talk about taking tin snips to the hood. They would cut the roof off if the script called for a convert. I saw a tbird they did that to. The windshield trim looked ok but the rear were the window was was jagged mess. Did thelma and Louise have a bird?

I think I will sit out in front of the Cineplex with the Cobra when "Fast and Furious II" opens, and see what kind of brainless comments I get from the "Ricer" crowd as they leave the theatre. I will just sit there and smile at the comments and wisecracks.
