NY registration law changes

Creeper,
Or anyone else. Has there been any news on proposed DMV law changes in NY? Some Bill was coming up for consideration that could enable us to reg our cars easier in NY. Have not heard anything since.
Persons we can contact to try and push this Bill or Law change?

It's been proposed...

Tom:
Go take a look at the text of the Bill before the NY Senate:

Bill S00615

It deals with Street Rods (pre-1948) and Custom Vehicles (post-1948)...that's us.

It basically says that custom vehicles will be registered as the model year of the car that they replicate... (...wahoo!)
..and that, I quote..
A VEHICLE REGISTERED UNDER THIS SCHEDULE SHALL BE EXEMPT FROM ANY STATUTE THAT REQUIRES PERIODIC VEHICLE INSPECTIONS AND FROM ANY STATUTE THAT REQUIRES THE USE AND INSPECTION OF EMISSION CONTROLS. ...(a bigger wahoo!)

To qualify, though, it must not be a daily driver... only used for "occasional transportation".

Contact your Assemblyman or State Senator.

That bill is very close to our SB-100, now to be done away with by SB-708. Just be sure that your state Govt. doesn't get a chance to see what our Governor is doing once he got the car vote for re-election.

Ron :(

Ron, From what you quoted the exemption extends to the annual safety inspection, not just emmissions? Are you interpeting it the same way?? If it does we better print up copies of the law, try explaining to one of the county cops you don't need an inspection sticker on the windshield.

The Bill indicates Special Plates to show the new classification.
And, yes, as it reads, ...exempt from both

I just got off the phone with both my State Senator (Hannon) and Assemblyman (McDonnough) offices trying to give this Bill a little push. For what it's worth try calling your reps. we have nothing to lose. My car is already registered as a 2001 Custom but when I go for inspection this year (2003) I have to pass "1981 idle sniff test" whatever that is. I would rather get in under this new bill and forgo emission test and just do a safety inspection. Sounds a whole better to me.

Ron,
Is there some way we could do a mass e-mail to ALL NY Senators. Maybe we can get NY Cobra guys to bombarde these offices. Hell, they probably don't have a clue what this is all about.

Ron,
How can I move this thread to " All Cobra Talk"? I posted this in the wrong area.
