Ford Crate Motor

Does anyone know where I can get a power curve for the 535 HP Ford Crate 460? I just want to know if it's like the S2000, nothing until high RPM's or a pretty flat torque curve.. .

Thanks!

I am not sure but I suspect a built 460 puts out more torque at 1500rpm than the S2000 at 8000rpm.

535HP@6250RPM
530FT/LBS@4750RPM

Just some numbers to start with.

550hp @ 5500rpm
560ft/lbs@4600rpm......500ft/lbs @ 3000rpm. Was built at perf. eng. in ross ohio. Not a crate motor, alittle more$ but more choices.

Rsiomes - You won't find a V8 that revs like an S2000...Unless you get an old F1 V8...Cause that is what the S2000 motor is like - no power until 4000 rpm - terrible off the line, great on the track...

Don't misunderstand, I have no desire for an S2000. My point was that I did not want an engine like the S2000. I know a big block won't be like one, I just want a big block with plenty of low end torque and high HP.

Essentially like the LS1 in the Corvette, only with bigger numbers.

The LS-1 has at least 300 ft-lbs from 1200 RPM to redline. I didn't want the 460 to be nothing until 3500. . .and then explodes from 3500 to redline. I don't want it like an F1. . . I want it like a torquer and high HP.. . .

I'm trying to decide between the 485 HP 460 and the 535 HP 460. The 485 has more low end, but the question is does the 535 have enough low end to be fun when I'm not on it.

either one will spin tires at will!

Rob,

Good luck! I have tried to find a Dyno Graph on My 5.0 Ford Crate for some time now. No success.

It seems that Ford doesn't print that information, which is a shame. Stuff like that are GM Performance trade marks.
It would be valuable information to have availiable.

I guess that Ford People have a great deal of trust, that Ford's statements are true.

Just a word to the wise concerning Ford Crate Engines!! I know your intentions are to have an Engine Custom built, but if you do not. Ford Crate Engine DO NOT have any type of warranty! I bought a New 5.0 Crate and now wish I DID NOT.

I have the 535 HP version of the FMS crate engine. Because of its valving, the engine really does nothing below 1500 rpm, and you don't feel powerband until 2000. Then hold on!

With a TKO, you'll want to run about 3.55 gears. 3.08s are just to tall and you won't feel squished in the seat off the line, plus you'll have to be doing about 75 before you can use 5th - and in 5th at cruise she'll bog on hills. 4.10s are just the opposite, and you're shifting into second under the traffic light - either way you lose one good gear entirely and spend most time in 3rd cruising. 3.55s will eliminate this, making for a very powerful, very streetable and uggh nothing like a rice burner fart can tubed sh*tbox!
