Haven't you ever heard the saying "don't screw with the guy with sunglasses " :)

Edley Rondinone 03-25-2003 08:26 PM

I dont think someone would deface the COBRA; however, some people would like to "get back" at a person for having a nice car, possibly for an imagined slight. I would not leave valuables in plain sight in an open car like a camera, wallet, or other items. Keeping honest people honest.

I agree with all of the previous posts...and...

......people see the brutish car and assume the owners is not some wimp. I leave the (ex-Jamo) bright red beast out in parking lot, with sunglasses on the seat---and no problem. People assume I'm a huge beast, but I only play one on television. I'm really only 5'4" and 135 lbs. Jamo (that jolly prankster) used some dark art to distort the pictures on my Gallery! Don't worry, I'll get him. :JEKYLHYDE

Rick,
I'm not very worried. Everybody respects something and most people respect and revere Cobras. They just devour them with their eyes. So many eyes that a car in the open is almost always attended and I believe that anyone trying to vandalize one would be subjected to vigilante justice without ant urging from the owner!

Cheers, Pete C

I would on occasion leave my sun glasses in the car, but with a twist. I had the infrared sensor alarm system. Reach in the car and BAM, alarm would go off (which I was constantly forgetting about when I reached BACK in the car to get my glasses, lol).

Bob Olthoff has told me at the AutoFairs and the like, where he exhibits his SPF cars, his interesting observation. He can be sited right next to a big new car exhibit, where people crawl all over and into the cars on display, but people at his SPF display simply don't touch the cars. Dads keep their kids right by their sides.

I think the shape and heritage of the Replicas are just so intimidating, so awe inspiriing, so seldom seen up close, that people just won't touch them. I greatly enjoy parking my car on the curb in Charleston, in the trendy area, and sitting in a chair with my Diet Coke, and watching and listening to the constant crowd of people standing around my SPF. I don't think i have ever seen anyone actually touch my car.

There are many adjectives that describe cars: handsome, svelte, sleek, stylish, feline, exotic and so forth.

But i don't think there is any car outthere, excepting our Replicas, that would be described best by the description as "brutal."

These cars have all the refinement of a Medieval Battle Ax, and i believe are profoundly intimidating to folks. So they don't tend to touch them.

It's how I see it.

The responses on this thread are far more positive than I expected. It is good to see that people seem to have a high amount respect for these cars. I know I will be nervous about leaving mine anywhere alone for a long time to come. Thanks!

About 30 days in to owning mine and it took 20 or 30 days to stop worrying too much! Still careful where I park it though.

Vandalizm

The only time I had a small propblem was
when I was in a fast food place. An italian beef joint.
Someone apparently walking by spat on the windshield.

Just a jealous kid I guess. I can't see an adult doing that
but...... then again you never know.
Nasty business cleaning it off.

I can't understand why some one that does not
know you, or the car would do that.
But then again, I respect other peoples belonings.

That was when I had first purchased the car about three years ago. Since then other than fingerprints and the occasional
over exited looker at a car show no problems.
;)
