427 or 428
If given the choice between the following REAL Cobras would you rather have:
#1. An original 428 car #2. A 428 car that has been converted into a 427SC car. Seems many of the 428 cars have been converted and that converted cars may even be more valueable. |
More valuable than in "original" condition?
Go figure! Ernie |
S/C or....
...I think the most valuable cobra would be an original S/C converted into a street car. Flares removed, side pipes turned into an undercar exhaust, 427 traded for a 428 and of course....A GLOVEBOX!!!! (Horrors!!)
As so many street cars have become "S/C's" the rarity of a reverse conversion must be superior! 'sides, it would really P.O. a lot of people! Rick:) :( :o :D ;) :p       %/ **) :JEKYLHYDE :3DSMILE: :MECOOL:  |
Don't matter, real is real.

A narrow hipped 427 street car.

Must be that many of the collectors who purchase these cars know only the history of the SC cars and want one for their collections. Maybe they don't understand that the cars started their life in street cloths.
A Mustang fastback converted into a GT is not as cool as an original GT nor is it as valuable. Funny how it does not seem to matter with a Cobra. |
Karl, Thank you for your support. We few original 428 Cobra owners are relegated to feel like second class citizens, much like some Cobra replica owners. However, I admit that this is self inflicted. Do I secretly wish I had an original 427 S/C? You bet!
Or an unrestored 427 street car? Yes! But show me where they are that are available and affordable(that term being quite relative!). So, the bottom line is, some folks are just never satisfied!!! Me being one of the worst! ( I personally lust after a convertible GT40, except they never made one!) Picky, Picky, Picky!!!! |
Jim,
I think you can find a 40 for around 220k, dont hold back, cut the top off and make your dreams come true.:D as for an unrestored s/c........... I was offered one locally last year for $425k... ...I caught myself seriously considering it....... and slapped myself sober. That looks like a beautiful 428, I'll bet I could be happy with it for a fair while;) Karl |
