Were any two of the originals the same? Weren't thet shaped with slapper files and english wheels? It seems to me you guys are trying to split hairs by saying that this particular make is absolutuely true to form original, while that one is ever so slightly not original. (not incluing streched, extended, rechaped, west coast, etc) If you really want pure originality, make the doors fit poorly, put a few dents here and there, make the wheelwells all different heights, and put narrow period correct wheels and tires that don't perform very well given today's standards. From most of the pictures I've seen of Shelby's race cars, you ought to smash in the radiator opening a little too.

LOL

pk 04-03-2003 11:29 AM

spf:

sidepipes too high

"mouth opening" too thin (not rounded enough)

rear fenders too flat (not enough bubble)

pk:D

agro1 04-03-2003 11:30 AM

...for almost 60K less - I can live with that...

Excaliber 04-03-2003 11:34 AM

Mr.Fixit is onto something!

I couldn't go so far as to say the SPF body shape is "way off". Actually it looks pretty darn close to me. But then again, I never could figure out why a $200 bottle of wine is neccessarily better than a $20 bottle of wine (and don't even go their with "watches", I am clueless).

But I DO know something about Cobras. SPF is pretty impressive in my book.

...and that's why they sell so many cars;)

fit and finish are first class and you have a pretty cool answer when people ask you if it's a kit car.

All in all a great car for people not interested in a "dead on" Cobra

PK - Agreed...but I wouldn't consider c.1600 cars that many...Even by Kit car standards...

Argo: I'm not trying to knock SPF. It was more busting Hals chops.

The SPF (IMHO) is off in the front openning, rear hips. But I'm nit picking and the average person wouldn't notice I'm sure.

In the end I really like SPF's and the way they look and think they are a great car.

agro1 04-03-2003 12:42 PM

Totally Evan - I agree...But from some of the pics I have seen of the SAI cars, the front opening has a very different shape than the SPF...The SPF is perfectly oval, whereas some of the Shelby's are not - They seem to be shaped differently on the bottom of the opening, almost flatten out... Has anyone else noticed this ?

See what I mean ???? Maybe I am just not very familiar with the Shelby cars - Like I said, buying one was never an option, so I never researched them at all. No disrespect to you Even, yours is goregous...But come on MAN - RIP A BURNOUT !!! :):)

Nose to Nose

289 vs 427.

Note the 427 nose was "dropped" to get it out of the air.

agro1 04-03-2003 12:53 PM

Interesting - I had no idea...Thanks guys...Thanks Ernie.

K - Now it's starting to make more sense...Now I see the difference...

And I'm DAMN glad I didn't pay an extra 50 K for that !!! ;)

Argo1: Burnouts? Those are hippies right?

Seriously I'd probably kill myself. I just watch Jamo at DVSF. There is a great pic of him doing a burnout in front of the Sheriff's officer.

Ron can you post that pic??

agro1 04-04-2003 10:33 AM

Well at least you know your limits man - I respect that...But that doesn't mean I have to like it !! ;)

I am not sure if it is the rear fender hips, or the nose of the car, but i just it just doesn't quite look like a "real" authentic 427 Shelby Cobra, mid '60's vintage looks like.

It is a fine looking car, but can comeone help me out on this one?

From looking at the picture,I see what you mean, but I think it is the 2 colour wheels & body colour(not red or blue!) that make it look different.

It`s very much a question of personal taste, this. 289 nose, 289 with oil cooler below(FIA), 427. There was a little variation from car to car, but they were all formed to Bucks so wouldn`t have been THAT different.
The Kirkham would be the first 'Perfect' Cobra as I believe they took dimensions from 1 side of an original Cobra & mirrored it, having found side-for-side variations! Modern aerospace manufacturing processes & tolerances Kick Old-Skool Ass!
